Something is cooking in the Democratic Detonation Warbond. Let’s see how to get and use Thermite Grenade in Helldivers 2.

Grenades in Helldivers 2 serve various purposes but are predominantly used to blow groups of enemies to bits. Aside from the more utility-style Grenades, like Smoke and Stun Grenades, the explosive ones usually only differ in stats, like damage, penetration, blast radius, and the like. But, a unique type of grenade has just arrived to Helldivers 2, the one that sticks to enemies before exploding. On that note, read on to see how to get and use the G-123 Thermite Grenade in Helldivers 2.

Helldivers 2: How to Get the G-123 Thermite Grenade

The Thermite Grenade is a part of the Democratic Detonation Warbond. You can find it on the first page, and you’ll have to pay 15 Medals to unlock it. Remember to unlock the Democratic Detonation Premium Warbond first, if you haven’t done so already. It costs 1000 Super Credits to unlock a Premium Warbond. Do not forget to equip the Grenade, either in your Armory or during the Loudout phase, before the mission starts.

The Thermite Grenade has the following stats:

  • Damage: 100
  • Penetration: 7
  • Outer Radius: 02
  • Fuse Time: 2.9sec
  • Weapon Traits: None

How to Use Thermite Grenade in Helldivers 2

You use the G-123 Thermite Grenade like any other, hold the Fire Button to draw back, and release to throw the Grenade. Unlike most of the Grenades, the Thermite will stick to the first thing it touches. Once stuck, the Thermite will start heating up, dealing continuous damage to the target. After a couple of seconds, the Grenade will explode, dealing more damage to the target, and anything nearby.

Its description states that it can burn through some armor, and we think that relates to Light Armor. In the promotional videos, we have seen it used against Chargers, but the community claims it is not that effective against them.

The Grenade turned out to be a little underwhelming. When stuck on the body of a Devastator (Medium armor), even after the burning damage and explosion, the bot was still standing. So, from our experience, it is not that effective against Medium armor. This Grenade didn’t turn out to be what the community expected of it. But, as players get the hang of it, we expect that the Thermite will find its use.

One where Thermite Grenade shines compared to the rest of the Grenades is that you can stick a couple of them on a nearby heavy and then move away before they explode. Other Grenades are not good up close, but the Thermite will deal for some time, before exploding. It’s best to think of them as a damage bonus, instead of a one-shot weapon. Stick a couple of them on the intended target, and keep firing with other weapons. Not the best use of the Grenade slot, and we truly hope that Arrowhead will take another look at this weapon, as the idea of it is awesome. The execution, not so much.
