Helldivers 2 is one of the most played games of today. Millions of players are flocking to defend Super Earth and our way of life. Different alien threats are upon us, like the bug-like Terminids and the bloodthirsty Automaton Collective. These evil robots want nothing more than to bring down our perfect Democracy.
They have to rely on dirty tricks, and the dirtiest trick of them all is the heavy armor they usually have. Devastators are more heavily armored Automatons, but they do have their weaknesses. If you’re here because of a Personal Order or just need some general tips, read on to find out how to find and kill Devastators in Helldivers 2.
How to Find Devastators in Helldivers 2
To find Devastators, you have to first go to any of the Automaton planets. They can be encountered at any difficulty level. In fact, some of the Trivial missions require you to find and eliminate Devastators. Being Automaton enemies, they are located on the left-hand side of the galaxy map. You can choose any of the Automaton-controlled planets in the red sections there and you’ll most definitely encounter some Devastators (or their variants, Rocket and Heavy Devastators).
What Are Devastators
The official description for Devastators is: ”The ironclad Devastator seeks to crush opponents of the Atomatons’ totalitarian worldview with a diverse array of heinous weaponry: arm-canons, arm-shields, arm-machineguns, and arm-rocket-launchers. Variants: Armcanon (Base), MG/Heavy, Rocket.” Devastators are larger than the most common Automatons that you’ll encounter and their armor is impervious to regular small arms fire.
As mentioned, there are regular Devastators, with guns on their arms and no additional equipment. Then there are Heavy Devastators, armed with a Machine Gun and holding a large shield. And lastly, there are Rocket Devastators, with a missile rack on their shoulders.
Where to Find Devastators
Most of the time, you will find them guarding bases or dropping from a Dropship. They can also be a part of a patrol with other Automaton enemy types, so if you can’t find them, they’ll find you. And lastly, they can be spawned by the Factory Strider.
With that out of the way, how to bring Devastators down?
How to Kill Devastators in Helldivers 2
There are a few ways you can bring Devastators down: with precision, explosives, or armor-piercing weapons. The absolute best, and what you should always strive for with Automatons, is to aim for the head. A single sniper shot to the head can bring them down. But, the head is a small target, so you have to aim carefully. You can even take them down with a good old-fashioned Liberator if you place your shots right. We found that two headshots with the Diligence Marksman Rifle will bring a Devastator down.
Another weak point we found is their “spine”, ie, the area between their legs and the armored chest. If the head is unreachable, or if aiming carefully is not an option, the spine is a good backup plan. We have found that a single shot to the spine with the Eruptor will blow the Devastator to pieces.
Devastators move slowly, but pack a punch, so stay in cover and try to shoot them from a distance. The variant with a shield can be quite tricky if you don’t have accurate weapons. A few grenades thrown right between their legs or from behind can take them down, so consider a Grenade Launcher. As for orbital strikes and similar Stratagems, most airstrikes are useful against Devastators. Since they are usually a part of a group, any orbital or Eagle airstrike that clears groups of enemies (like the Eagle Cluster Bombs or Airstrike) will prove useful.
The Rocket Devastator variant has shoulder-mounted rocket launchers. Shooting that rack will detonate it, which deals damage to the Devastator itself, and prevents it from using those rockets from that moment on. Moreover, you can shoot and destroy their arms to make them less of a threat. Remember to shoot at the joints for maximum impact.
