Players Urge Helldivers 2 Devs to Never Add This Game Feature

There is a lot of talk about adding the option to vote and kick some players out of Helldivers 2. But, adding that option to game may not be the best solution.

Currently in Helldivers 2, only the host can kick problematic players out of the party. This is rarely done as the instances of someone being that problematic are quite rare. But, non-host players may want to remove another squad member for various reasons. For now, no one but the host can do it. But, will adding an option to votekick someone be beneficial to the game? Not everyone thinks so.

Vote Kick May Do More Harm Than Good to Helldivers 2

One player, named Doktor_Obvious on Reddit, created a post stating how adding the option to votekick other players will be more abused than anything. “Convincing others that may not even speak English to vote what you want is rarely possible. And groups of bad actors can manipulate the system easily by blocking the vote.”

He continues, stating that if the majority is required for a kick, a team of two problematic players can wreak havoc all over the place and never be kicked out. “The current system is the best we got. One day I would wish for a report system to be added once Arrowhead has the manpower to manually review bad actors.” But, sadly, players report instances where the game’s host kicked everyone from the game right before extraction and similar situations, adding to the fact that the current system is also far from perfect.

Helldvers 2 Community Offers Ideas on How To Compensate Kicked Players

As we realized, not every kick is justifiable. Some players, like chad001, think that some compensation for the kicked players should be added. He said “The current system isn’t necessarily the best we’ve got. I’ve been advocating that we can use the current system but implement an instance system where upon kick, kicked players are placed into their own instance of the mission, so if they get kicked at extract they can just leave.”

Minerson agrees, adding ‘Players who leave or gets kicked gets rewards based on their time in the squad”. But still, that is just a band-aid for a generally unsolvable problem.

Players Will Find a Way to Abuse the Kicking System

Sadly, what votekicking will do is grant more people the ability to dictate other people’s fun. “Do this and that or we will kick you out”. We all know that gamers are not known to be the most reasonable people, most of the time. We have all been there. How many times have you witnessed someone having a breakdown over a minor issue? In Helldivers 2, where friendly fire is always on, hurt feelings may run rampant.

If the devs add votekicking, the number of players that get kicked for minor reasons will skyrocket. We have all done some accidental team kills (especially with the new Airbust Fragmantatrion Launcher). But leaving in constant “fear” of getting kicked for whatever reason will only serve to keep some players from actually enjoying the game and may lead to players abandoning the game altogether. No one wants to waste 40 minutes of their life on a mission just to be kicked out at the end, empty-handed.

Of course, things are different if the kicking is justified (intentional team kills, cheating, hacking, etc). But, until we get a way to record and monitor every player’s behavior, the current system is still the best.
