Helldiver 2 is an online game, so the player count is an important number. It is a sci-fi co-op shooter developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. You and up to three of your squad members are tasked with protecting Humanity from various alien threats. This game proved to be a huge success, so much so that servers were incapable of supporting the sheer number of players for a time. But, every craze comes to an end eventually, so let’s find out how many players play Helldivers 2.
The Current Helldivers 2 Player Count
For a long time, the average number of concurrent Helldivers 2 players was somewhere between 180.000 and 260.000. But, more recently, that number has dropped. Now, the average number of players fluctuates between 20.000 and 30.000, depending on the time zone.
That is the lowest number of players HD2 ever had. Due to controversies, unpopular decisions by the devs, and general fatigue, more and more players are looking to play something else.
State of the Game
Unfortunately, this is due to a lot of controversies and player dissatisfaction that have happened recently. The decision that linking a PSN account to your Steam was mandatory has made a lot of players leave, and not all of them came back when the decision was withdrawn. The fact that each new Warbond proved to be lackluster and worse than the last one has not helped at all. Add the various weapon nerfs and you get a lot of unhappy players.
Third-party websites, like SteamDB, keep track of the player counts for many games, Helldivers 2 included, and have provided this information. Hopefully, as soon as new content is revealed, the numbers will increase once again.
Players hope that The Illuminate will finally appear, and that may bring a lot of them back. And the new Warbond is amazing, but when the excitement died down, so the numbers dwindled once again. Due to general fatigue, and the repetitive nature that the game finds itself in right now, the numbers are at an all-time low.
Bear in mind that these statistics are from Steam users only. Right now, there is no way to officially track the number of PlayStation Helldivers 2 players. However, a third-party website PSN Profiles states that almost 60.000 people own the game, but only about 800 PS users are playing it.
Helldivers 2: Highest Player Count
Helldivers 2 was released on February 08, 2024. In less than two months it has achieved unexpected success with millions of copies being sold worldwide. The highest player count is 458,709 concurrent players, which was achieved on February 24. The second-highest player peak was on March 02 (440,473 players), with March 09 (437,628 players) being a close third place.

The highest numbers are usually when a new Warbond is released, or some long-awaited update hits. The estimated total number of copies sold averages around 12 million. We hope that the devs will fix the issues that made the majority of players leave and add some new content so that the number of concurrent players will once again be in the hundreds of thousands.
