Season 2 brought the latest game mode that was added to The Finals, Power Shift. If you are wondering how this mode is played, we have you covered. Read on and we will explain in detail how to play Power Shift in The Finals and how to win more matches.
The Finals: How to Play Power Shift Mode, Explained
Power Shift is a casual mode in which two teams of five players compete to escort a platform through the arena. Unlike other games where you simply push the objective, in The Finals there is a twist. The platform you are competing over will move along a predetermined route once it’s in possession of one team.
Moreover, rather than going around the objects in its way, it will destroy everything in its path – buildings, trees, and anything else. This means that if you are protecting the platform you can expect whole buildings to fall on your head. Just keep in mind that this doesn’t do damage to players, but it can be quite chaotic.
The platform starts in the middle of the map. It will start moving once one team has an uncontested team member on it. The speed at which the platform moves is increased with additional players from the same team. Moreover, maximum speed is reached at three contestants. Once the enemy team gets on the platform it will stop, and will switch direction if the platform switches the team that controls it.
The game ends once one team brings the platform to their goal or if the time runs out. However, if the platform is contested when the time runs out the game will go into overtime. One thing to note – in the Power Shift game mode, whenever you’re eliminated, you have the option to switch your contestant and loadout. This means that you can play a few different Builds and different loadouts in the same match.

How to Win a Power Shift Match?
To win a Power Shift match, you must take and protect the platform from the enemy team. To that end, we must take into account that the platform is not small. Moreover, your tactics and loadout might change, depending on whether you are protecting or trying to take the platform.
Tips for Attacking
If you are attacking, some gadgets are more useful than others. To take the platform from an enemy team you will have to clear it first. Melee weapons are great for this, along with close-range weapons, especially the Heavy Build’s Flamethrower. Additionally, gadgets like Frag Grenade, Pyro Grenade, and Glitch Grenade are great ways to deal damage and disrupt defending players on the platform. Keep in mind that one of the greatest tools for dealing with a bunch of enemies in a small space is RPG-7.
Tips for Defending
On the other hand, if you are defending the platform you want to make it a kill box. Sadly Light Build does not offer anything in this department. However, Medium and Heavy Builds are great at defending. Medium Build’s APS Turret is one of the best gadgets in Power Shift. Once placed, it will destroy any projectile or grenade thrown in its vicinity. Moreover, combining APS Turret with Guardian Turret, Dome Shield, Goo Grenades, along with Barricades, Mash Shield, and Explosive Mines will allow one Heavy and Medium to hold the platform on their own, especially if Heavy Build brings a Flamethrower.
