It is well known within gaming circles that Star Citizen is the most successful crowd-funded game that is yet to be released. It still costs money to play the in-development Alpha version, but from time to time, the game offers a period of free access. Such is the case with the Free Fly event coming up soon in Star Citizen.

Normally, players need to fork out at least $45 to get starter access to Star Citizen. While there doesn’t seem to be an end to the game’s development, enough is available to keep a regular player base. In an effort to bring more people in, free trials are organized from time to time. Let’s see how you can try out Star Citizen for free during the upcoming Free Fly event.

How to sign up for the Free Fly event in Star Citizen?

The first step towards playing Star Citizen during the Free Fly event is to create a free Star Citizen account. After that, you can’t do much but wait for the event to launch. When the Free Fly event begins, you will be able to download and install Star Citizen on your PC through the Roberts Space Industries website. Use your account to log into the game in the launcher and test out the space game for yourself.

When is the Free Fly event?

The Free Fly event coincides with the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo (IAE) 2953 – an in-game celebration and shio show. It promotes dozens of ships and vehicles, allowing for free test rides. It’s usually followed with announcements and other in-game goodies.

This year’s IAE will take place starting from November 17 to November 30, 2023. It begins at the same time across the globe. For the major time zones, that means:

  • 4 pm CET for Europe
  • 11 am EST for East Coast US
  • 8 am PST for West Coast US

Bear in mind that after the event ends, you will not be able to keep playing unless you purchase a Starting Package. Any progress you have made will be saved up until one of the regular Star Citizen server wipes is performed.
