Helldivers 2 players recently received a Major Order to kill two billion bugs, with up to six days to complete. It was done in about 12 hours.
Major Orders are how Helldivers 2 pushes the narrative, and everyone contributes to it. Recently, after a whole month of fighting the Automatons, Arrowhead decided it was time to take a break and to switch focus on the Terminid front. We were issued a simple order: kill two billion bugs. That sounded like a lot, and the devs thought six days would be enough. They were so wrong.
Two Billion Bugs in Six Days? How About 12 Hours?
When everyone saw the number of Terminid kills needed for the Major Order, they thought it was going to take a while. Two billion is not a small number. But, the reality was different. It was just plain extermination, with no regard to objectives, mission success, or anything. Instead of avoiding patrols, it was our duty to eliminate them.
As mentioned in one Reddit post, after just 10 hours, we were already at 77% completion. It seems that Helldivers 2 players were itching to hunt some bugs, and not liberating or defending planets was a welcome change of place. Since the Order was getting completed at such a fast pace, players jokingly commented things like “Save some democracy for the rest of us lol” by DopeAF21 or “Jesus let me finish the work day at least guys lmao” by JCarterPeanutFarmer.
Helldivers 2 Automaton Veterans Were Spoiling For a Fight
Some players claim that the veterans of the Automaton front were responsible for such a success. It is widely recognized that the Automatons are a tougher foe than Terminids, and fighting against bots for weeks will turn even the greenest Helldiver into a die-hard fighter. Charge those experienced Helldivers with a simple extermination mission and, well, the results speak for themselves.
In another Reddit post, made just seconds before Major Order completion, ZeroChevalierYT said: “As some mentioned, bot vets followed the Major Order after weeks of bot campaigns. It was like a vacation to them. That, and there are still many who prefer fighting bugs. Put them together, plus no longer needing to tip toe around patrols, and you get Mission Accomplished in less than 24 hours. Two billion was not enough.”
At the moment of writing, there are no new Major Orders. We think the idea of a six-day Order was to give Joel enough time to cook something up for the Automaton front. And since the Order was completed in 12 hours, there is a chance that we will be given another similar one to keep us occupied. Or it may happen that since we harvested enough bugs for their E-710, the offensive against Automatons and reclamation of Cyberstan will come sooner than expected.
