Whoa, man. There are gender-influenced reviews, and then there are just flat-out bad ones. That review sounds awful. That would be like someone doing an Uncharted 2 review that only provided commentary on Chloe's butt. Actually, that would be kinda funny, but not a good review. Still, that review doesn't sound nearly as gender-influenced as it is plain dumb.

My wishful thinking would lead me to believe that for every one of those, there's one of these: ...

We also need more female writers in the games industry. Sure, that's the same thing that engineering and mathematics organizations say about their professions, but this rings true in what you're pointing out. There are female writers out there; why aren't they contributing to the gaming world?

Actually, that last question is probably a whole other can of worms when talking about the games industry at large, and we haven't even reached Japanese culture and ...

This article isn't the worst, but come on. GamePro's a for-profit site, they should have some info standards.

First of all, you can't answer "Does gender affect game reviews?" by just exploring Metroid: Other M and mentioning an aspect of Gears 2. Silly. The author would be more accurate in calling it "Editorial: I'm Sitting at my Desk Thinking of Random Things, and One of These Includes a G4 Review of Metroid: Other M."

"Multiplatform is just an excuse there is basically no difference, sure they might have cut extra things out to fit on dvds but at its core this is what 13 was going to be and currently is."

The problem is that they didn't have the staff time to put together actual towns and expanded content that wouldn't have made it so linear. The reason why they didn't have the staff time is because they reinvented the wheel with their own graphics engine, and they r...

What do you mean "doomed?" Nintendo hasn't taken any risks lately that could be conveyed in sales numbers; they're keeping all the cash in the vault, stoking the 3DS fires, and will announce something when they feel like it. Activision spending chunks of change on a skateboarding peripheral that sucks - that's doom. None of these current systems are doomed; they've lasted long enough to nearly be legacy consoles.

Kemiru, no one is getting Dreamcasted here. Each of the three home systems has sold plenty, and they've extended the sales out quite a bit... by now, there should be new consoles at least announced, but nope. They're going back for more. Production and support will not stop on any of these for a while. When it does, there will be follow-up systems. Inevitably, Atlus will start making AAA titles for the old ones at least a year after the new ones are out. Happy end! A winner is ...

I'm completely selfish in wanting a Dreamcast 2 to happen. It would allow Sega, for whatever amount of time that system survives, to bring back their creative people and put out innovative AAA titles again. Jet Set Radio, Rez, and Space Channel 5 all came out of the Dreamcast, and JSRF, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and Gunvalkyrie were only on the Xbox because the Dreamcast folded too soon.

I could care less if it failed or succeeded. Imagine, if you will, Sega actually puttin...

Hardly an article. Clickbait.

I could have written that block of paragraphs more efficiently and effectively: "We don't know the controller layout, the hardware specs, the games lineup, anything about backwards compatibility, or the price, so I have no bleeping clue." Done. Actually, why don't I just go make a site like this? Apparently this kind of word vomit will land you on the front page of N4G.

I read it, so you don't have to! ...

Dude. Baka, you're right! I didn't think of PN03 at all, but it's definitely a big influence, at least visually.

I'd totally be up for a new Megaten game. The way it's worked for a while, I think we'll have to preserve our old consoles until Atlus releases one on the PS3 in 2021, but they'll get to it. In 2021.

Drakengard 3? Really? I'd rather see a traditional sequel to Panzer Dragoon myself (not that stupid Kinect reboot), but I understand that Drakengard had some other stuff to offer. Including a killer army of mutant babies.

You're a...

I like how this writer thinks. Those are five great games (Blue Dragon, eh... but the rest are good) and he has some good reasoning behind it.

My top five, and these don't need to be titles that don't already have a sequel:

1) Jet Set Radio (Thanks, Chuk5!)
2) Einhander
3) Gunvalkyrie
4) Zone of the Enders
5) Gitaroo-Man

Go get ZOE, or at least get the sequel, which is even better! It's a polar opposite to something like Steel Batallion; extremely nimble robots fly across city sectors and have face-meltingly quick battles.

ZOE 1 is plagued by awful dialogue and voice acting at times. Leon is awful in ZOE 1: Sure, he's just a kid, but that's beside the point; I would have opted to not put a whiny kid as the main character in my awesome giant robot game. He's significant...

Raiden, I agree about your second statement. I've begun to construct a rule over announcements of announcements: What's big in Japan is pretty small everywhere else.

I'm thinking mostly about the giant hyped annoucements from Konami that wound up being Snake wearing different T-shirts in Peace Walker, the giant Capcom X Microsoft announcement that wound up just being another Monster Hunter rehash, just silly stuff that isn't very interesting.

This is the first time I've seen the Resident Evil 3DS trailer. Holy moly, that looks good. Nintendo isn't skimping on the hardware this time around (of course, they better not be with the 25000 yen price point), and Capcom seems to be working really well with the hardware.

I'm fine with that until you get to "fact." What the heck is a fact? Some things seem blatantly obvious as facts (very low framerate leads to tough controls, which leads to a bad game) until they're proven wrong (Shadow of the Colossus). It all relates to the work as a whole. If there's shoddy work done, like in the latest Leisure Suit Larry title, yes, it's obvious that it's a bad game. If it's an awful port from an otherwise great game (Bayonetta), sur...

I didn't like the way the review was written either, but I'm not sure what to say about this whole argument. I'm hearing that people need to "predict" what the general public will think about the game for a review, or that they need to be "sincere" instead of "opinionated." This is wishy-washy and substanceless dreck.

What happens when you put "standards" on a reviewer? I'll tell you - you get "If you like this ...

Yup. And they did.

Then again, if you look at it from a Castlevania IV perspective, the "It's not Castlevania" argument may not hold up. Guess we'll have to wait and play.

I'd argue GameCube. Came out later in the game. Didn't have a showstopping launch lineup. Looked only compact enough to be annoying yet too big to carry around. Had all the aesthetic value of a lunchbox. Couldn't play DVD's because of the annoyingly compact form factor. Sure, you got your Nintendo faithful to buy the system on day one, but you're saying "anyone," and the mainstream wasn't quite convinced at first.

It wasn't until Sup...

I remember a very bundle-crazy scene in the games marketplace back then. It was hard to find a console that wasn't in some expensive and unneccessary bundle. I'd argue that Gamestop had more power back then, they could almost restrict the market to force you to buy expensive and unneeded crap.

But seriously, let's keep the fanboy stuff away from Xbox Classic. That system brought us Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and Gunvalkyrie. In other news, Se...

Wow. The newest iPod touch, which came out very recently, at the largest size (64gb), is $399. Also, I've never seen an iPod that needed a contract.

Are you possibly thinking in Canadian dollars? That still doesn't explain the contract bit. Are you thinking of the iPhone?
