Indestructible is not to be taken seriously; it's a tune that's definitely self-aware. It's so boisterously "90's Japan meets Eye of the Tiger" that I can't bear to stay mad at it for being so silly. It's really good at being a bad tune!
I mean, Street Fighter built their soundtrack heritage around the likes of Yoko Shimomura. Their sound team is definitely intelligent enough to know the difference between a tongue-in-cheek parody and ju...
ExplosionSauce, that was a perfect, perfect joke. Beyond!
Still, I like that Tekken 6 track a lot. It's the one I remember from the game. And believe me, the rest of what I remembered from that game was a giant ball of rage... I really like the old-school single-player Tekken, and I didn't appreciate fighting random guys on a dock over and over again. That guitar yodel saved the game.
Estranged, it's not really the same thing. Here we're talking about a new product that clears up a problem with an older one. They're snarkily pointing out to the world that Move is different from Wii. That's fine by me - I think Nintendo knows full well that waggle is out.
The N's been basing their latest giant releases on the core audience, and within much better ways of using their tech - like using the Wii-mote as an actual controller, or in the c...
Dude, Platinum is developing both versions in-house this time. The way it looks, it's hardly a "port" job on either side.
How are MS tools "proven?" Because ports aren't as good as the original? That's just a platitude - ports are typically inferior no matter what, unless a great amount of staff time and resources are poured into a new "revised" version.
I have some issues with a port that got a lot of attentio...
This picture collection just isn't very good. They're comparing motion blur half of the time, and positioning isn't completely the same... which means that things like lighting won't be completely the same either.
I think the 3rd shot (in the tunnel) is a pretty good one to compare by, but I'd much rather check the earlier Digital Foundry article about this than this collection.
Since we're being all 15th anniversary over here, maybe check out this very detailed article on Playstation's history from 2009. I was reminded of it by that proto-logo picture PSLifestyle posted as the centerpiece of their article, since it's also in the headline of the article I'm citing:

As much as I typically don't agr...
Love those choices. I forgot about Hanging Edge, that's a great track from FFXIII.
Cool list. Since it's only 15 tunes, it's hard to pick them, and you're bound to miss some. I'm also glad FFXIII's soundtrack is getting its due on the thread - the soundtrack is one of the best aspects of the game (not that the game's bad, the score is that good!)
Other games with awesome tracks that could make the cut:
1) Demon's Souls. Those boss battle themes are absolutely awesome. Dark, mysterious, but a colorful harmonic...
I understand why they're doing this, and I applaud their boldness. In a time where everyone is cutting back and stagnating, they're going all-out with an HTML5 redesign and a mobile site. They can't pay for the staff time for creation and maintenance of that stuff with just ad revenue or an IPO. It's not 1999 anymore.
I like that they're taking *this* risk. What I didn't like was the Whiskey Media idea in the first place - I like Tested and Scree...
Good points, Atlys. The article mentions content (RDR, which is Rockstar), but I didn't see anything about it from Valve.
I know I referenced the good old days, and I understand it's an old-school practice - MS has to pay people to certify those updates the same way that Nintendo has charged companies to get their stuff licensed in order to keep their licensing staff paid, but if a competitor starts offering a better deal, it's time to "change or die,"...
Omega, Gabe Newell is not a gamer looking to play Modern Warfare 2. He's a guy who runs a development company that wants their games to be pretty darn perfect and balanced, and there's no way to do that without constant checking for bugs and updating, no matter how good your initial "final" product is. He wants Valve to have the freedom to update their games more than once without charging you for it. Please tell us where Newell mentioned the overall online services in re...
The free thing you're talking about, regarding Valve's argument, only applies to updates, Atlys. Not free DLC or whatever. Updates. No matter how hard a dev works on their game, there will always be bugs, and good development companies will keep working on those. Also, updates to improve balancing issues happen when you're a great dev company. If they're only allowed one free update to their games, perfectionists like Valve will not be happy. Like in Team Fortress 2, as...
This is perfect. Valve isn't just throwing fanboy comments out there, they're releasing harsh statements in order to negotiate outside of the corporate office. It's something you see more and more in the sports world, and it's sometimes unnecessary and stupid, but since Valve is a company that still delivers the goods, it's warranted and even welcomed. I'm happy to see them think outside the box about negotiations.
Honestly, I couldn't care le...
Semantics are funny. Kudo is just saying that Kinect was built (well, modified from the much better original Tel Aviv work) for the Xbox 360. Kinect wouldn't work on any other console in the same way that Wii-motes won't work on the PS3, or how Blu-Ray discs won't work on the Xbox 360 (and isn't that a bit more important?).
Unfortunately, he doesn't need any tech specs to back that sentence up, and it's "technically" not about hardware su...
I like the original Resident Evil and all, but this writer needs to put a bit of criteria into his lists. Just because RE is historically significant doesn't mean that the first RE is the "best" zombie shooting game; it means it's the most historically significant. I'd much sooner put RE4 on top, RE2 over a mention of RE, and if I were to include another RE title, it would be Code: Veronica.
I really don't see the expectations for Duke Nukem Forever at all. It's been the butt of jokes for the past bazillion years, and fans are very happy to see the Borderlands crew take this on. I love that it's personal - that some of the head guys at Gearbox were from 3D Realms and knew the people that were futilely trying to put DNF together.
I think it'll be a fun first-person killing spree, just like the old days. It doesn't have to be the fake mind-bl...
What a simple, fun, and ridiculous concept! Why didn't I think of that?
If you haven't played Typing of the Dead before, find a way to play it. Compatibility modes on PC or whatever. TOTD was awesome, partially because it's the most fun you'll ever have learning how to type (Mario has nothing on zombies in this case), and partially because it's hilariously absurd. Just like this one promises to be.
I know that it sounds stupid at first...
Am I the only one that thinks this series of dialogue bubbles plays out like the King of the Cosmos talking to The Prince in the Katamari series? "Or drank too much soda." "What were we talking about again?" "Oh yeah, buttons." I mean, there were some Butler-isms in here (Pew Pew Pew!) but most of this makes me think of the King.
Is it just me, or does this game look also inspired by Out of this World and Heart of the Alien? I'm definitely excited.
What he was proposing about "real time," infusing more RPG-ish restrictions on Zelda-style combat... that was done incredibly well in Demon's Souls. I hope beyond hope that DS winds up energizing the real-time-action RPG community - those games can be extremely well-done, complex, and tough as nails.
I would like the JRPG world to take a Demon's Souls-esque turn, the way they moved toward turn-based strategy games until about last year. in a much brighter...
