A Sinister Terminid Species Crowned as Best by Helldivers 2 Fans

If you have ever played this game, you’ve certainly met the insectoid creatures often affectionately called space bugs. Helldivers 2 fans try their best not to tremble in the face of the Terminid threat. Even one of the Major Orders centered around their extermination. Recently, Reddit users shared their appreciation for one particular bug species.

Not All Bugs are Created Equally

Efficient_Menu_9965 raved: “The Brood Commander is honestly a blast to fight against and I wish the heavier units of the bugs were as multi-faceted as it. In regards to its behavior, it has loads of ways to engage a diver”. There are several ways the Brood Commander engages the enemy: “It can engage normally as a Warrior would. It has a berserker rage upon getting beheaded like a Warrior as well. It can charge at the diver like a Charger. And it has a summon ability to call up two Warriors”. It has a perfect combination of attributes.

Another thing that makes them a great enemy is all the ways that a Helldiver can deal with them. “If you have a medium pen support/primary weapon, you can shoot the head and behead it but have to deal with the berserker rage. If you have a light pen weapon, you can shoot the legs off to stagger it and force it into a crawl state, which deprives it of its charge. Shoot enough legs off, you even kill it entirely.”

The one important detail that sets them apart from the other Terminids is that they feel like skill checks when you encounter them. They allow you to enjoy the challenge of a fight, rather than to feel frightened for your life.

Snug as a Terminid

Other players agreed but insisted that some of the features make the Brood Commander too fierce of an enemy. El_Denis said: “I just wish they could not call reinforcement once they are beheaded”. A player named grongnelius seconded that statement. They added: “I think my only issue with it is when it tracks you after you blow its head off. I’d have zero problems with it if it just mindlessly attacked towards where it last knew you were instead of somehow tracking you”.

Dedicated fans found explanations for the behavior of decapitated Brood Commanders. Several stated that bugs released pheromones as they died, summoning other bugs. Some said that the reason behind decapitated bugs still being able to track you lay in the vibrations in the ground, or maybe they were able to smell you through the receptors on their legs.
Headless_Buddha summarized the problem with decapitated Brood Commanders. They said: “My issue is that blowin’ its friggen head off only seems to remove about 25% of its health, then you have to dump 3 more mags into the stupid headless, legless thing while it chases you? My bullets do nothing and it feels bad”.

A Reddit user ash-deuzo explained the best way to approach the Brood Commanders. They said: “Their head doesn’t have medium armor, its just that it’s kinda sloped so you can bounce off if ur shots don’t have a good angle, but the best way to kill them with any weapon is to blow their head off. And yeah, I agree, they are an interesting mob to fight, we really need more medium enemy variety”.

Kestrel1207 went into more detail: “Their head has light armor, i.e. armor class 2. This means that weapons with light penetration (AP2) incur a 50% dmg penalty. This is denoted by getting a white hit marker ingame”.

Having read a lot of the Helldivers 2 players’ opinions, it seems that the Brood Commanders really are fans’ favorite. What do you think? Do you maybe prefer the Bile Spewers?
