The best part of the article is the last paragraph, where it makes sense. Staying with DVD for X360 would have been fine if consoles were in their usual cycle, but because everything has been drawn out, DVD is showing its age badly.

It was a fine business decision at the time, but the DVD is definitely a more obsolete piece of technology now. Now that these consoles need to live longer, the more expensive Blu-Ray path Sony took looks a bit better.

In the meantime, FPS games are getting all RPG'd up. Borderlands and the like. Even the COD and Killzone series have their leveling systems. You know, those shooters that Western companies have been creating since Wolfenstein 3D.

In other words, Final Fantasy wouldn't be the first to cross the line between steroids and hair gel.

FFX was great. Although it didn't have much for extra bosses and such, it certainly had legs because of the monster arena.

But don't even get me started about the chocobo/balloon/bird race... Oh man.

However, I keep seeing this game and thinking it takes the great stuff from FFX-2 and throws out the Britney Yuna thing. I hope it's like that, FFX-2 at its core was an amazing RPG.

Agito looks awesome. If they can keep SqEnix from releasing a gimped version for the iPhone, things will be looking up!

Keymapping? Wow. If only, FragGen. We can dream.

I would understand Yakuza, since that game doesn't necessarily need a Dual Shock to play it, but bringing current-gen titles to the PSP has been not that great in the gameplay department - God of War being the wonderful exception.

GTA Chinatown Wars was much better on the PSP, but you can't make that a system seller to an audience who have already seen the title on DS. PSP needs distinctive advantages, not wannabe followups. It's now out on iPhone, and for the less-informed pub...

Thom, that's a must. Awesome game, and also pretty hilarious.

PSP needs more games like Half-Minute Hero. That is exactly what I'm talking about when I mention supporting small developers. Granted it didn't sell like hotcakes, but still. Great game.

It all stems from the piracy, eh? Sony, I love you, but $250 for a UMD-less system that does nothing above the original PSP is affecting your sales. Piracy happens, but it's not the main cause.

Plus, there just are not enough current reasons to own a PSP. Sony sold the heck out of GT PSP and it came as a campaign mode-less skeleton. LittleBigPlanet PSP is nice, but I don't need to own two versions of that game. I've got it on PS3, and I enjoy that one just fine. After GT, h...

It's stuff like this "game" that gets in the way of people being seriously creative and making controversial and sometimes jarring works of art. This is just being early enough to look controversial, not expressing yourself.

Usually I would disagree with the "How dare you" crowd, but this really isn't one of those times. This is just some attention-grabbing person with too much free time.

I'm not so sure about the "un-American sentiment&qu...

I don't think we've seen the 2010 Game of the Year in action yet. I would love to see a game come around that actually revolutionized the way core gamers look at motion control, but that's wishful thinking and does not involve any bald guys spouting nonsense about some virtual kid.

It'll probably just be some nicely done sequel to a high-grossing series... as vague and cheat-filled as that guess is. My highlight so far has been Bayonetta, which is an amazing game (or maybe meta...

Star, if you're posting these colorfully-written sentences as a joke, you did an awesome job. I cracked up. You are joking, right? I'd feel kinda mean if I wasn't laughing with you.

Anyway, back on topic - It's weird to see people come out and say that a disc storage problem is Capcom's fault, especially since tech has moved quite a bit further since this console's inception. What was once the PS3's mighty flaw (Blu-Ray being ridiculously expensive at first and all) now keeps ...

I don't know, L - I wasn't too big a fan of Crystal Chronicles, Mystic Quest, or the cell phone spinoffs - are you just referring to the core series?

"quit trying to appease westerners you idiots."

Agreed! Try something like that and you get FF12. Actually, I think 13 is a major step for Square Enix back to Japan. It looks much less like the "Um, we're going to try to make this look like an MMO, because you like this, right USA?" feel of 12, and goes back to probably the most uncompromisingly Japanese FF ever, X-2.

They should be concerned with making good games, not pleasing a certain cou...

Could someone please explain to me why the target demographic for the NBA All-Star game lines up with the JRPG target demographic? Anyone? You want some wild hair and chocobos with that basketball game?

Seriously. The NBA has had a rough time getting their own fans to watch the All-Star Game, because fans of certain teams couldn't care less about watching their star players go wear themselves out over nothing.

Tonight: A UFC title match reunion special, brought t...

Anyone who overlooked Meteos probably didn't get the DS when it first came out. That was the only good (original) game for it when the DS released, and it was awesome. Very disappointed when its "sequel" was just a Disney rehash.

FFXIII was originally a PS3 exclusive, so it was the console where the foundation for FFXIII was largely put together, despite their PS2 thing before it.

That's all he's saying, it's just put together in a way that'll please the blog readers. It has nothing to do with what's coming out this March... which will hopefully still be good.

What happens when a multiplatform title is being advertised for one system is that the system's company is sponsoring that advertisement. Advertisement broadcasting is expensive, so Microsoft enters a deal with Square - put our logo at the end of your commercial, and we'll give you money to put that commercial out there.

In a way, it's buying permission to put your company's stamp on the commercial in order to sell both the game for that platform and the system itself.

@Raztad

I'm sitting here playing the PS3 version and wondering the same thing. The only answer I can come up with is that Sega had released some of its most ambitious action-ish titles on the original Xbox, and they're going back to the Box as a test. I don't think it worked very well.

Actually, it didn't work very well on the original Xbox either. Hardly anyone knows what I'm talking about when I mention Gunvalkyrie, and hardly anyone has played Panzer Dragoon Ort...
