How to Evolve Poliwhirl into Poliwrath or Politoed in The Teal Mask DLC – Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

How to Evolve Poliwhirl into Poliwrath or Politoed in The Teal Mask DLC Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Wondering how to evolve Poliwhirl into Poliwrath or Politoed in The Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet? No problem. Keep reading for all the details about evolution items, locations, and more.

In the new Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you’ll encounter loads of new and old monsters throughout the land of Kitakami. Many of the Pokémon you’ll meet first appeared in the Kanto and Johto regions, including the Poliwag evolution line. From the Water-type tadpole to Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, and Politoed, each can be obtained in the expansion. However, you’ll need to get your hands on specific items to add both final forms to your Pokédex. Here’s what you’ll need to do to evolve your Pokémon.

How to Evolve Poliwhirl into Poliwrath in The Teal Mask DLC

Poliwhirl will evolve into Poliwrath when it’s exposed to a Water Stone. Simply give the evolution item to your Pokémon to see it transform into the Water/Fighting-type. Its level won’t affect the process, so don’t worry about gaining enough experience beforehand.

When it evolves, Poliwrath will learn the move Dynamic Punch. This hard-hitting Fighting-type attack deals a devastating blow with 100 base power. What’s more, there’s about a 30% chance that you’ll confuse your target if the move lands. The key word here: If. While powerful, Dynamic Punch only has 50% accuracy, making it a risky move. However, this can be helped with an accuracy-booster, such as the Wide Lens item.

How to Evolve Poliwhirl into Politoed in The Teal Mask DLC

On the other hand, Poliwhirl will evolve into Politoed when it’s traded while holding the King’s Rock. Since its debut back in Generation 2, the vibrant frog Pokémon has been a particularly sought after partner. However, many trainers have elected to go without adding Politoed to their ‘dex because it has a history of being tricky to obtain without a trade partner.

That said, there are now community-based trade codes that you can use to find a trade partner with a like mind. Of course, you’ll still need to trade your own Pokémon while it’s holding the necessary item.

Where to Find Poliwag and Poliwhirl in The Teal Mask DLC

Both Poliwag and Poliwhirl can easily be found lounging around the riverbank in the Mossfell Confluence, highlighted on the above maps. Although, you’ll likely find the former before you can locate its evolution. Surf on the back of Koraidon or Miraidon to net one of the two. I recommend using either Dive Balls or Net Balls, as both will lend you a higher catch rate in this scenario.

How to Get a Water Stone

You might have some luck collecting Water Stones as drops from Tera Raids in Kitakami. However, it’s much easier to travel back to Paldea and pay a visit to Delibird Presents. At these shop locations, you can purchase the elemental stone for 3,000 Poké Dollars.

How to Get a King’s Rock

Likewise, your best bet to obtain a King’s Rock is to head over to Delibird Presents in Paldea. There, you can find the item for sale at the price of 10,000 Poké Dollars. If you don’t want to pay that price, I don’t blame you. Luckily, you can also obtain the item as a reward for defeating all eight gym leaders in rematches. This will round out the post-game of Scarlet or Violet.
