XDefiant Devs Surprise Players With a Double XP Weekend

The Preseason of XDefiant started on May 21. The first reviews are mixed, to put it mildly. Probably the biggest problem so far is the general feeling that the game is balanced around the players who buy boosters, making the progress extremely slow for the non-paying players. It seems that XDefiant devs didn’t forget about the non-paying players, offering a long weekend of double XP to everyone.

Fans Welcome the Double XP Boost

The official XDefiant profile on X shared: “To celebrate launch week, we’re offering Double XP on weapons! It all starts Friday at 10AM PT/ 1PM ET and continues through the weekend until Tuesday at 10AM PT/ 1PM ET”. They also confirmed that for those who have an XP Booster, the double XP will stack with it. They said: “In math terms, you’ll have (XP x2 Booster) + (XP x2 Event)“.

Mark Rubin, the Executive Producer of XDefiant, confirmed this. He jokingly wrote: “1×1=2”. The reactions to this decision were mostly positive, with people being thankful to the developers for listening. It isn’t common in the gaming world for the developers to be so proactive and to actually work to make the fans happy. Usually, that sort of communication is one-sided, with fans begging for changes and the developers chasing their artistic visions.

Some XDefiant fans took to Reddit to share tips on how to get the most out of this weekend’s promotion. Breezer_Pindakaas said: “Pro tip: use the double XP weekend to prioritize getting the first sight on every weapon”.

Another user, recneulfni, noticed: “Btw this is a good use of double XP. Gives people a reason to keep grinding after the first few days. Sometimes games release with double XP, and then the progression hits really hard once it’s over”.

A New Bundle Enrages Some XDefiant Players

Another novelty is coming to XDefiant. As per the official X page, the Prototype bundle is available this week only. This announcement was met with both positive and negative reactions. People mostly pointed out that paying 30$ is too much for a bundle of four items, no matter how cool they were. Lewzi said: “Please focus on fixing your game before worrying about bundles don’t be like CoD”.
Grey elaborated: “Guys, please reconsider these prices. We understand you are an F2P game but $30 for 4 items is a bit excessive especially when there is no weapon inspect and with this being an FPS, you can’t even see your soldier. The game is awesome but these prices are not”. JJand1 agreed: “I’m not buying anything. They need to focus on fixing all the issues first. And 30 for a bundle that’s a big nope for me”.

It’s up to the developers to find the balance in a free-to-play game. It’s completely fine and normal to have bundles and packs for sale, and the effort that XDefinat developers are putting in is obvious. After all, the fans like to have a variety of weapons. Unfortunately, they aren’t there yet. Offering the double XP to players was a step in the right direction by the XDefiant devs. Hopefully, they will keep trying and make the game as enjoyable as possible for both sides.
