How to Get the GL-21 Grenade Launcher in Helldivers 2
Grenade Launcher is a Support Weapon, meaning you must unlock the appropriate Strategem to use it. Open your Ship Management terminal and select the Stratagems tab. Scroll down to the Engineering Bay and there you will find the GL-21 Grenade Launcher.
It costs 6000 Requisition to unlock, and you have to be at least Level 6 to do so. Don’t forget to select it as one of your Stratagems before the mission starts. Once planetside, type in the Stratagem code for the Grenade launcher (Down, Left, Down, Up, Left, Down, Down), throw the beacon where you want it, and after a couple of seconds, your new Support Weapon will be ready.
Helldivers 2: How to Use the GL-21 Grenade Launcher
As mentioned earlier, the Grenade Launcher is a versatile weapon, able to take on a wide variety of targets. It launches grenades (surprise, surprise) that detonate when they come into contact with an enemy. If they hit the ground or other terrain, they will bounce off, and explode seconds after. Keep that in mind, so you can avoid blowing yourself up, thanks to a grenade bouncing back at you.
It holds 10 grenades per magazine, and, as you’d expect, the grenades deal damage in an area and are effective against everything except the heaviest armor. The explosive damage is great for bypassing the damage resistances of Bile Spewers and Chargers, and for dealing with swarms of bugs. Grenades are useful against the Automatons too, since they can reliably damage the weak spots of Hulks and Tanks, and take out Scout Striders. The smaller bots rarely group up, so the Grenade Launcher is not that good for clearing Automaton chaff.
The best aspect of the Grenade launcher is its ability to close bug holes and destroy bot fabricators at range. You’ll have to get used to how the grenades behave when launched so you can aim properly. But, after a bit of practice, you’ll be destroying those Outposts in no time. Grenade Launchers are a great choice for Blitz missions.
On the other hand, the downside of the Grenade Launcher is its somewhat limited ammo. You can quickly go empty during a firefight, and it only has two extra magazines. And the explosive nature of its shots can be deadly to your squad. It is a weapon best used against static targets since if you miss the intended target by a hair’s breadth, the shot will explode harmlessly somewhere far away. The damage is “ok”, but not enough to be a real threat to heavies (unless you hit the weak spots).
