Many fans know the studio for their Demon Souls game, its spiritual successor Dark Souls and sequels, and the recently released Elden Ring.
Players have been wondering if the success of the Souls series would have a significant impact on Armored Core 6, as a way to get more players into this mech franchise that predates Dark Souls. This guide will explain to players if the new game will be more of a soulslike game in terms of gameplay.
Is Armored Core 6 A Soulslike?
The answer to whether Armored Core 6 first into the soulslike genre is a bit complicated as it does have some facets that were present in Dark Souls, but are concepts that were present in previous FromSoftware games.
Combat will be aggressive and players will need to learn attack patterns of bosses, while world-building and story will be mostly indirect just like the Souls series. The studio is aware of the similarities, and Armored Core 6 game director Masaru Yamamura spoke to Eurogamer about it.
“With Armored Core 6 we’re trying to incorporate these elements in a way that does not taint the original qualities of what makes Armored Core what it is,” Yamamura said to Eurogamer. “We’re trying to incorporate these elements in a way that lets them coexist and gel nicely with our modern game design philosophy and be understood easily by the player without spoiling that core concept of Armored Core.”
However, the structure of the game will be different to the Souls games by picking missions from a menu instead of exploring an open world. It will also be more forgiving when players die, and will simply take away currency instead of XP and other resources.
