Fromsoft has finally announced the long-awaited DLC expansion for Elden Ring. The DLC announcement was officially made on February 28, 2023. With Elden Ring being such a massive success and generating so much revenue, we’re excited to see what Fromsoft does with this latest addition to the game.
Shadow of the Erdtree release date
Fromsoft has confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree is in development but has not provided a concrete release date. However, based on their patterns in the past, it’s safe to assume that it will release near the latter half of 2023.
Shadow of the Erdtree price
Similar to their previous DLC release price tags, we expect the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC to cost between $20 and $30. However, with how popular Elden Ring is and the amount of effort put into the DLC Fromsoft might even release it at a price tag of $40. Check back for updates on the price and release date.
Shadow of the Erdtree Content
Unlike the Colosseum DLC, which was mostly for PvP-based content and some balance changes, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will be a full-fledged expansion. It is expected to be similar to the Bloodborne the Old Hunters expansion or Dark Souls 3 The Ringed City.

The area in the release image does not exist in Elden Ring, and the rotting tree is a brand-new sight to behold. With Elden Ring being the largest Fromsoft game, it’s safe to assume they will give their DLC the same treatment. Considering that, we can expect several new areas, enemies, and bosses. Furthermore, with their PvP balancing experience, Fromsoft is sure to add interesting new weapons, spells, and equipment to the game.
Shadow of the Erdtree story
The DLC might be set after the destruction of the Erdtree in Elden Ring. We see it rotting away in the background of the revealed image with a yellow pus-like miasma dripping from its branches. This may lead to corruption spreading throughout the Lands Between, and the tarnished have to deal with the repercussions. We also see many Spirit graves rise from the ground, which may be a new phenomenon occurring in the region.
The figure with blonde hair we see riding torrent in the promo art seems to resemble Miquella. Miquella was one of the Empyreans cursed with eternal youth. Miquella’s story arc remained unresolved in Elden Ring, where we see him trapped in an eternal slumber within Mohgwyn Palace. Some NPC dialogue hinted at great repercussions if Miquella were to be awoken. Hence it may be possible that the new DLC will center around Miquella awakening to the destruction of the Erdtree.

The location on the map shown here is found in the center of all the Divine Towers and had been obscured by clouds. Players had long speculated might be a secret location for future DLC content. Maybe this location will give us access to a new arena or region to explore.
