FromSoftware Inc., the developer of Elden Ring, has announced a new DLC called Shadow of the Erdtree.
It’s been almost an entire year and three days since Elden Ring was first released, so we know they have been working hard on this newest release.
New Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree
FromSoftware Inc announced the DLC through a tweet on the Elden Ring Twitter, and it came with a promotional image.
The image is of the player character on their mount riding through a field of wheat. There are ghostly graves around them, reminiscent of a graveyard.
The player character is traveling to a huge Erdtree in the distance. The tree is so massive that the leaves begin far above the clouds.
There was an entry added to the Elden Ring blog released in Japanese with the Twitter image, but translated, it doesn’t explain much about the new DLC.
As with the main story, we plan to distribute it on PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5 / Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S / Steam.
The follow-up report is still a little ahead, but I would appreciate it if you could look forward to it.

Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Predicted Release Date
There is no information on when the DLC will come out. Based on the timing, we estimate the earliest Shadow of the Erdtree can be released is in the autumn of 2023.
Yet, that could always change based on whatever information we’re given in the months to come.
Elden Ring was released a year and a few days ago, so we can assume that this DLC was conceptualized and started working some time ago. Although the Colosseum Update added PvP to the game, it was still more of an update than a DLC.
Therefore, we believe that this has been in development since the game was first released.
The Erdtree’s Role in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
There is a lot of lore to the Erdtree, and players already know a good deal about it.
Essentially, the Erdtree is a giant, glowing, golden tree that looms over the Lands Between. A blessing has been bestowed upon the Lands Between by the Elden Ring, from which the Erdtree symbolizes its influence.

While the art of Shadow of the Erdtree may imply that the player is going directly to the Erdtree, that may not be the case. We may see more about the dark background GameRant’s explained.
The Erdtree may appear to help and heal, but it could also be taking away from the land. The DLC might be showing players a part of the land that has been hurt by the Erdtree, which has lost the Erdtree’s light and is possibly dying in the Ertree’s shadow.
We can only speculate about these theories, but the DLC looks like it will be significantly bigger than the Colosseum Update that brought PvP.
