Farewells to DUST514:
A small goodbye to DUST514, from current and past players and bitter-vets
Special Guest:
This week’s guest is Daniel Maslovsky from the game-studio Craneballs, here to discuss their kickstarter game Planet Nomads! It is an interesting Sci-fi Survival Sandbox games, and several Bammsters are already backers on Kickstarter!
From GameWatcher: "DUST 514 was first announced back in 2009 for the PlayStation 3 as a first person shooter played in conjunction with the massively multiplayer space sim EVE Online, and its final build was launched in 2013. CCP has announced that DUST 514 will be shuttered on May 30th 2016, with a new FPS being developed to replace it."
wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.
I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side
DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.
Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.
The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.
The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
I played the Beta. I couldn't get to grips with it to be honest. I actually died so much I got bored. It looks great, and I love the idea of how it cross overs with EVE. As that game has always fascinated me, despite never playing.
But I'm not great at FPS like this and so I didn't find it much fun. But I'd still tell people to give it a try anyway.
I don't get the MAG comparison though. I loved MAG and found though it was 'slow' I could actually kill people. On Dust it felt like everyone other then me were bullet sponges.
Gotta agree on the menus, there is just so much stuff on there that I leave them as it is and just use whatever's on me already. Despite that, loving the emphasis on teamwork in this game >:D
I know in it's current state it's only a beta so it's hard to say right now, but I was very unimpressed with the game. It is a free game which is a very positive incentive to play but so is Planetside 2 and I felt Dust 514 pales in comparison. True one is on console and the other is on PC so it's not really a fair comparison but I was under the impression Dust 514 would be open world like Planetside 2.
I really like the deep rpg elements of leveling up your character's suit, weapons and perks. However the game and gameplay is very barren.
I honestly don't see Dust 514 succeeding and will be a wasteland within 6 months of release...but we will never really know because Sony doesn't release numbers.
They really need have closed servers for brand new players that have just downloaded the game.
Most of the matches I have played so far have been really uneven. There are always a few players that have way better equipment/armor that eats bullets and weapons that spit death.
For someone who is trying to understand the gameplay and options, getting killed over and over by someone with a better loadout is extremely off-putting. I consider myself a pretty avid gamer and FPS player and even I was getting frustrated, I could only imagine how real new players would feel.
A bit of a learning curve at first but it seems pretty fun to play (i've only logged a couple of hours). This morning I played a skirmish match that took about 40 minutes and once you get the hang of things it gets better. Seems pretty deep as a fps as well which may give it long legs.
