@parris - good points. But if the $500 X is selling well RELATIVE TO the the $200 same gen base model, that's a good sign for the market being there. During launch there really wasn't the kind of choice that the mid-gen upgrades afford us now.
On the discless console, sure they want us to move to digital and they would probably discount the price way more than the cost is f the drive because they know they'll make it up in the much better profit margin for digi...
@gangsta - as long as there's choice, I think we as consumers win. The caveat I think is that more configurations means more development and testing work for the game companies, which might get passed on to us in higher prices for games. But that's just theoretical I guess..
It's nice that it validates that there's a market for higher end consoles in the $500 range, cause I'm willing to pay for it. Given that not everyone is, it's still not a good idea to make your only console that expensive. What if for the next generation they offered two different hardware configs right off the bat at two different price points?
Sorry but that's a big oversimplification. As much as people get caught up with every adjective on DF's site, I'm confident the vast majority of players can't tell the difference between an XB1X and a PS4 Pro version of a game on their 4k displays. And, BTW, If you really think the X1X will last a full gen then they won't have another console until 2024? They're both mid gen upgrades, the X is marginally more powerful and came out a year later...
I don't think this is a problem with the industry. Publishers make stuff they think people will pay for, consumers pay for thingd they like. If publishers make stuff that people don't like they go out of business and people are looking for jobs. They worst thing people can do to punish a publisher is simply to not buy their stuff.
I just happen to be finishing up the game now on my handheld. It's got great story and characters, I'm enjoying it...
There's some speculation that Sony might announce PS5 outside of E3. It's possible they release together, but I just can't see how Ms can keep their promise about being the most powerful console on the market without knowing exactly what Sony's going to release in advance.
I didn't watch the video. But I would guess 2019 is some kind of PS5 announcement. Too early for the next Xbox (maybe they put out a streaming/discless XB1, not counting that). 2020 is probably when the PS5 will be available, so maybe it's MS's chance to convince people to wait for their console in 2021. It'll probably be a year later based on their new "most powerful" strategy. So the messaging/marketing in 2020 is critical to their 2021 launch and keeping people f...
If it's over for Xbox, why are they still selling consoles? So what if they're not #1. Has it been over for Pepsi? Is it over for iOS? Do you really think that because you think A is better than B that B just ceases to exist?

Thank God for government protecting us dumb folk from falling victim to these evil companies that prey on our inability to discriminate on how we spend our money. I guess since over 50% of the US population receives some form of welfare from the government, they're really just looking after their own money, so it's all good.
Thanks Gumby, nice summary. Think I will have a listen when I have time. Interesting concept of having tiers for, say, newer games or AAA titles.
I'm with you on this. Could be wrong of course but cartridges don't seem to fit with where Sony has been going...
I'd hapilly buy that ripoff, but I don't see them doing it. They could have iterated on Vita but killed it and the reasons are still out there. A cheap streaming device or something could line up with their strategy, but you don't need cartridges for that...
While I'd love for that to be the case, it just can't be done unless PSVR gets a significant downgrade in graphics (not likely). The self contained units are very low horsepower and not good for gaming. It'll take quite a few years before you can comfortably build even a PS4 into a headset.
I'd put Dreams on that list...
For those of us that can't listen right now, what's the problem with Netflix for games?
I'm guessing bundle, which is what we need... More users...
Nice to see all three consoles selling pretty well. We'll all continue to benefit from the healrhy competition!
I gonna miss having a place to steal off to while my wife shops for boring stuff.
