But even NPD has incomplete data... They don't get all the retailers and while they do put out very good educated guesses, they still are not 100% accurate. The only numbers we can really go by are the ones released by the companies usually at the end of the year. Until then we have to rely on guesstimates and incomplete data, no matter the source.

Where did you come up w/ the 50% number? How would anyone even know unless Sony released it based on reading the output type of gamers that are online, which still isn't everyone.
See, I find myself playing my PS3 FAR more online. The only game that I play online is Halo (though I don't have Gears yet). From what I've experienced the only plus to the 360's online is in-game XMB and better 'online friend' system. I say 'online friend' because I have never met anyone and have only played w/ most of them one time.

I bought my 360 for this release and can tell you that the max EVER on was a little over 1 Mil and I only saw it that high twice.

It isn't like there is a DVD group and a BR group and their fighting for marketshare... These are studios already making movies in both formats... The studios control not only the pricing of each format, but also what gets released in each format. They aren't going to price compete w/ themselves when they make more money off of BR... I was an original xbox owner and the only FPS that I played were Halo 1 & 2. The games that sucked me in were Prince of Persia (looked & played WAY better than the PS2 version), KOTOR 1 & 2, NBA Live 2005, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Morrowind, Ninja Gaiden... no FPS's... I'm not a huge FPS guy and what got me to buy an original xbox were all the other genre's that complemented my PS2 that I had since launch. In fact once I got it I didn't play my PS2 until FF12 came out.

While it could lose 'some' business for those 360 owners that currently refuse to buy a PS3, it would put the 360 and PS3 in more direct competition. Even if the add-on is $150 and you have someone who wants BR and games, cost of the 360 would be far more than the PS3 with less features. Even the arcade would be over $400 and the elite would be about $600 and we all know how well that price point works. A price cut would help, but even $50 off wouldn't make the 360 look better for those lo...
They don't have many in house software development companies. They HAVE to rely exclusive 3rd party games, usually ones where they buy the rights to the IP.
How many PS2 games did you play on your original xbox or vice versa... No hack (emulator) could do that, otherwise ports would be WAY easier than EA has been saying.

In the contract Sony gets to set the price. So they sell them at $200+ a pop for the 360 owners who refuse to get a PS3 plus for new potential buyers who want BR as well as games, the PS3 would look FAR better price wise (about $500 for the arcade + BR...). Just a thought.
Nah, 360 games will NEVER be on BR. If they do that means all those people who own one now would have to upgrade, and I just got one last year and would be EXREMELY pissed if they made me upgrade my Elite already. I mean damn... it cost me more than my 40GB PS3 and you want me to replace it already? I for one would insta-sell my elite and just say F-You M$!

Whether or not the drive itself is different, the concept is the same. HD-DVD and BR are different, therefore you would need different lenses which means more parts and more cost on a) a format that only has a little over a million people who bought it in the first place and b) a format that will have FAR fewer movies. By the time combo players would reach $50 HD-DVD won't be a necessary feature.
A game isn't supposed to cater to everyone and just because you're a minority and don't like the selection of songs does NOT mean that GH and RB are racist. Guitar Hero and Rock Band have to be the weakest arguments for racism I've heard. There are a lot of classic rock songs. It just happens that the fastest (and hardest) songs are metal songs. That because of the BC (just like we see in games) the movie studios are eventually going to release new movies only in BR. It happened w/ VHS to DVD, except I could really see this happening sooner, especially if players are constantly sub $200. People would be willing to pay that much to a) see their movies in hi-def if they can and b) they would still be able to play all their old DVD's. I doubt they'll stop production of DVD's for older movies, but I would be very surprised if studios ...
