There are only a few days before the release of Manor Lords, and recently, the game’s developer Greg Styczeń took some time and addressed some of the concerns about Early Access. It is great seeing developers engaging with the community, and Greg has been keeping us updated every step of the way. Stay with us and will go over everything the developer discussed from what the game is to the plans for the future.

What Manor Lords is Not, According to the Dev

Due to the promotional material for the game, which included massive battles and a 3rd person view, many in the community assumed the game was a cross between a Total War game and city-builders. To clarify what his game is, Greg explained everything Manor Lords is not

The developer stated that the game is not a competitor to Total War, nor is it a Grand Strategy game. Moreover, it is not a fast-paced strategy game like Starcraft, or a role-playing game akin to Mount & Blade. Manor Lords is a medieval city-building game with battles, as described by the developer. However, these battles are not as common or on the scale seen in the Total War titles.

The Game’s Early Access Status

Greg explained that Early Access is the best way to release the Manor Lords. The game is not fully done, and there will certainly be changes made early on. The idea behind an Early Access release is to use an open-development strategy. This will give players a chance to influence future developments. This is the first serious game from the one-man development team, and the reactions to it are overwhelmingly positive so far.

Plans for the future

Currently, Manor Lords doesn’t have a Roadmap, but this might not change in the future. Adopting a strategy of “listen, verify, implement”, the developer’s current plan is to spend the first month of Early Access patching bugs and improving the game. After that time, the plan is to collect data from the players and address the most pressing matters first.

Closing his address to the community, Greg mentioned the idea of future patch testing. This involves keeping two versions of the game active – one stable version and one for testing. This would open future testing to all players who want to participate.

In short, Manor Lords looks like a promising title that would breathe a wave of fresh air into the city-building genre. With the Early Access release imminent, we’re looking forward to trying the game out and following its development.
