More Environmental Conditions have been added to the game. This article explains what are Meteor Showers and Fire Tornados in Helldivers 2.

In Helldivers 2, you can meet your end in various ways. You can be eaten by space bugs, shot to death by evil robots, shot to death by your friends, or squished by a Walker. That’s not all, as you can step on a landmine, fall off a cliff, and you can get hit by a meteor or burned to death by a flaming tornado. Read on to see what that is all about. Let’s see what are Meteor Showers and Fire Tornados in Helldivers 2.

Helldivers 2: What Are Meteor Showers and Fire Tornados

Meteor Showers and Fire Tornados are Planetary Hazards in Helldivers 2. With the release of the 01.000.100 Patch, a new group of Environmental Conditions has been introduced to the game, called Planetary Hazards. They add a certain randomness to the game and another thing that Helldivers have to watch out for.

What Are Meteor Storms

The infamous Meteor Showers, or Meteor Storms as they are actually named in-game, happen periodically on certain planets (like Fenrir III, for example). When you see the Meteor Storm Warning, meteors will start falling from the sky, indiscriminately hitting things, Helldivers and Terminids alike. This is not well-received by the players, as now you can simply die just by moving around the map. We have found that hugging a cliff face can offer a certain level of protection, so you can try that while you wait for the Storm to pass. The silver lining is that Meteors can destroy bug nests for you, if luck is on your side.

What Are Fire Tornados

Fire Tornados have only been encountered on the planet Hellmire in the Mirin Sector. Unsurprisingly, they resemble a flaming thread, originating from the sky and touching a point on the surface, burning everything nearby. Note that they tend to slowly move in a line, so it is best to keep your distance.

As with all Hazards, they are temporary and will dissipate after a while. You can use the fire to your advantage if you happen to defend a point where the Fire Tornados are.

Changes to the Environmental Effects in Helldivers 2

The Planetary Hazards, especially Meteor Storms, were not warmly received by the community. Players say it is too random and can hardly be avoided, thus making the game less enjoyable. Thankfully, the devs heard it and are working towards making those Hazards a little more balanced. Johan Pilestedt, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO, said: “…our team is working on it. For now – there is a sign where they will hit (a faint light on the ground).” Hopefully, these changes will turn Planetary Hazards into more of a challenge and less of an annoyance.
