Helldivers 2 Players Received Some Sneaky Buffs Amid the Nerfs Controversy
All devoted Helldivers know by now, that the latest update has received quite bad reviews from the community. Fans were disheartened by all the nerfs and the devs’ comments certainly didn’t help. There might be a silver lining, as some Helldivers 2 players discovered there were some sneaky buffs, aside from all the devastating nerfs.
Some Sneaky Buffs Surprise the Community
As many players reported taking a break from the game, only the most devoted ones persevered. Those who did, report that the life post-nerfs isn’t as horrible as expected. Apparently, the devs didn’t announce some of the weapons’ buffs in the patch notes.
One player, fireheart1029, broke the news on Reddit. They stated: “In case you didn’t know, all laser weapons got buffed. Anything that shoots a beam now lights enemies on fire after a second or so of concentrated fire. This significantly increases the damage of weapons like the Dagger and gives them a bit more crowd control”.
This unexpected change is actually huge, as the bug divers mourning over the nerf to the flamethrower now have an alternative. TheAshen_JobSnow noted: “Yes, a complete stealth buff. It gave beam weapons a better place at the bug front, where their lack of stopping power and the heat/cool-off mechanic made them far from great picks”.

Helldivers 2 Players Fear More Nerfs in the Future
Obviously, many Helldivers 2 players were wary that the buffs were just some more sneaky nerfs in disguise. Others suggested that these were accidental buffs that would be taken away in the next patch. Darkshamrock sarcastically stated: “Sure, this isn’t an unintended effect that’ll be fixed later”.
Several other players expressed their skepticism. Among them, honkymotherf**ker1, noted: “The extra classic bit is when this gets removed next patch because it’s either a bug or they didn’t mean for it to go live”.
Chocolate_Rabbit_ offered an explanation on why this wasn’t a buff per se. They explained: “I mean it is 50 DPS which ain’t much but it is better than nothing. Technically, it’s a bug fix, though, as this has technically been in the game files since the beginning, it just wasn’t working for whatever reason”.
Whether it’s a bug fix or a straight-up buff, this change was more than welcome. Sometimes Helldivers 2 feels like Pandora’s box, you have to go through all the sneaky nerfs, and when you are all but done with the game, some buffs await at the bottom, and bring you hope. We hope to see you around, fighting those Impalers with our freshly-buffed Laser Cannon.
