A Moral Dilemma Causes a Rift Between Helldivers 2 Players

Everyone has a different ticking point. The things that throw one person out of balance might be the ones that center the other person. We all live very different lives, we have different interactions, and usually somewhat divergent definitions of good and bad. It’s very hard to give a definitive answer to a moral dilemma, especially in the case of Helldivers 2 players and their impossible problems.

A Player’s Honest Dilemma

Recently, one of the Redditors, jaccboii, asked his Helldivers 2 community for some advice. The OP had to kick out another player for dying constantly. They explained: “I was playing Diff 7 Bots with randoms. The mission was going well and people were dying at a relatively normal rate but one level 30 player was dying basically every minute. I warned him on his sixth death to be careful. By his seventh death, I kicked him because I was worried that we would fail the mission if he depleted our reinforcements and we would fail the objectives and lose our samples”. Fortunately, after the player in question was kicked out, the remaining players “completed the mission with literally no more deaths and all our samples”.
Now, you can already see the outlines of the dilemma. The OP asked for some reassurance: “I didn’t want to kick them and rarely do so when I host because I think everyone should be able to have fun and play the game but there has to be a limit right?”.
Kitteh-Weaver said what most of us were thinking. They shared: “It’s mean for one person to blow through your stack of reinforcement. Kick away”. Europe_1986 concurred and added: “Everyone has bad games, sure, but I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve blown through all 20 reinforcements myself lol. I’ve been in the same situation where someone used all reinforcements within 5 or 6 minutes so yeah, definitely worthy of a kick”.

Another player, BasisAfter556, offered their full support: “Not at all. Kick away. They weren’t ready for it”. Cucth0 offered another angle: “Is it mean? Sure, but you’re the lobby leader. You don’t have to play with anyone you don’t want to”.

Some Fans Deserve the Moral High-Ground

A fan, aptly named Mental-Crow-5929, found the perfect balance. They said: “It depends, honestly. If a guy literally keeps mindlessly dying at high difficulty the kick may be deserved. If you are in THE worst s**tshow and a guy keeps dying while you BARELY manage to survive it’s not, maybe the guy is just not as good as you are but we should all try to carry our brothers in arms”.

Some, however, consider kicking out anyone is unfair. Night_Movies2 had some harsh words for the OP. They insisted: “Yeah, it’s just a game. Try not to take it too seriously. Who cares if you fail the mission? How does that actually impact you? It doesn’t”. In a slightly calmer manner, ApacheTheGender agreed: “Personally, I would never kick someone for just playing bad no matter how bad it is. Sometimes people have a hard time. But I wouldn’t blame anyone for doing it”.

Basically, everyone has a different point of view, and that’s completely normal. Even more so, it’s desirable. Imagine how boring the World would be if everyone shared the same set of opinions and values. Diversity matters as much in a game as it does IRL. Whose side are you on?
