Sometimes, when you’re feeling overwhelmed, and the game you’re playing becomes tiring and annoying, the only thing you need is a couple of words of support. Most gaming communities gladly offer support to the players who ask for it. We’ve all been there, after all, we’re all human, and experiencing these feelings is completely normal. Well, unless you’re a part of the Finals community, where burnout is only for the “weak”.
A Player Admits to Experiencing Burnout
One player, EvonSchmidt, took to Reddit, hoping to receive some encouraging words from their fellow players. They explained how constant grinding and the need to progress were starting to get to them and they were feeling down.
This player noted: “I want these gun skins but I’m so tired and burnt out. I’ve been playing The Finals since OB and this Season has really felt like a drag. I’m 43k in Terminal [Attack], and I’m good 3 in World Tour but holy s**t am I getting tired. I really want these skins but I’m literally playing all the time and just barely creeping along”.
The OP sheepishly asked: ” Does anyone else feel this way and is it even worth it spending the time to grind if I’m not having fun anymore”? Now, at this point, other communities usually show some compassion, as we all sometimes get tired and need a break. Not The Finals community. Out of dozens of comments, only one person admitted to feeling the same.
The Finals Community Shows Its Ugly Side
Honestly, the lack of support for The Finals players who suffer from burnout was quite surprising, as the game was designed for grinding. Nonetheless, most community members despise the “whiny” players who can’t stand the pressure.
One Redditor, ccetchi_, said: “I agree that the grind is a little much. But Embark also does. not. owe. you. f**k. all. No one is entitled to the highest rank. It’s there for the few people that have the time and dedication to reach it”.
Flimsy-Building-8271 noted: “Modern gaming culture, putting in 40h/ Week into a Videogame, behaving like its a 2nd fulltime job, and then they wonder why they’re burned out lol”. Many players agreed with these statements, and several others pointed out the OP was just experiencing first-world problems.
One partially helpful player, Methics, reminded the OP that there was still lots of time left. They stated: “You have 48 days left. If you are gold 1 right now. If you can’t obtain an average of 2 wins a day, then sorry to burst your bubble. But you are not meant to have it”.
The number of personal attacks on a vulnerable player is just too much for us. The whole idea of a community is for members to support each other, not to ostracize the ones who ask for help. Season 3 is a little more demanding, and we completely understand the players who feel burnt out. There is nothing to be ashamed of. If you feel like this, we suggest you take a break and return once you feel better. The game isn’t going anywhere, but at least you’ll see that FOMO can be beaten.
