The latest addition to Secondaries, this triple-barrel shotgun has already won the hearts of Helldivers. Read this article to see how to get and use the SG-22 Bushwhacker in Helldivers 2.
Secondaries are the sidearms of Helldivers 2. Most of them are Pistols, as you’d expect. You have different types, with different rates of fire, damage per shot, clip size, you name it. The first “exotic” Secondary was the Grenade Pistol which, you guessed it, fires grenades instead of bullets. Secondaries are great but most of the time they are only used when the enemy is upon you and you have no time to reload your Primary. And your Primary Weapon is usually going to do a better job anyway. Until now. Enter, the Bushwhacker. This sawed-off shotgun counts as a Secondary, but it behaves almost like a Primary, in sheer destruction it can bring. So, let’s see how to get and use the SG-22 Bushwhacker in Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2: How to Get the SG-22 Bushwhacker
The Bushwhacker is a triple-barrel sawed-off shotgun, that takes the place of your Pistol. It is introduced in the Viper Commandos Warbond, and you can find it on the second page. It costs 50 Medals to unlock, but first, you have to spend 100 Medals there before you can even access the second page. And, naturally, you have to unlock the Viper Commandos Warbond before any of that, by paying 1000 Super Credits.
The stats for the SG-22 Bushwhacker are:
- Damage – 405
- Capacity – 3
- Recoil – 170
- Fire Rate – 650
- Weapon Traits: Light Armor Penetrating, One Handed
How to Use the SG-22 Bushwhacker
First of all, you have to select the Bushwhacker as your Secondary after you unlock it, either in the Armory or during the Loadout phase, before the mission.
Our first impressions of the Bushwhacker are more than positive. Secondary Weapons are there to get you out of a pickle (apart from Grenade Pistol, that one is usually for other stuff), and the Bushwhacker proved to be astounding in that field. It comes with 30 rounds altogether and can hold up to three at the same time. You can choose between two firing modes: Semi (each barrel shooting one at a time) and All Barrels (all barrels shoot at the same time).
Semi-fire is what you will usually use. It can fire up to three shots (pretty fast, mind you) and each deals a lot of damage up close. The closer the target, the more pellets will hit it, as with every other shotgun. It is great when you are jumped by a Terminid Warrior or Hunter since it can dispatch them in a single shot.
But, the greatest feature of the Bushwhacker is the All Barrels firing mode. With a single push of a button/click, the Bushwhacker will shoot all of its remaining shells at once. As each shot deals around 400 damage, that totals more than 1200 damage in one go. It can reliably one-shot an Automaton Berserker. And the reload is quick enough.
One thing we noticed is that, while it does not have Rounds Reload listed in its traits, the Bushwhacker is reloaded one round at a time. Maybe an oversight by the devs.
The only downside of the Bushwhacker is the short range and lack of accuracy. You won’t be using it to shoot those bots hiding behind weapon emplacements, for example.
