Hunters are one of the most common (and annoying) Terminid strains, so let’s see how to find and kill Hunters in Helldivers 2. HD2 is an increasingly popular sci-fi co-op shooter game. The game’s main enemies are either the robotic Automaton Collective or the bug-like Terminids. These Terminids have various bioforms, from small but numerous Scavengers to large and armored Chargers and Bile Titans. Hunters are a medium-side Terminid strain and the topic of today’s article. So read on to see how to find and kill Hunters in Helldivers 2.

How to Find Hunters in Helldivers 2

Being Terminids, you first have to go to a Terminid-infested planet. Those are on the right-hand (eastern) side of the galaxy map. You will encounter Hunters on any difficulty level, and naturally, the higher the difficulty, the more Hunters you will encounter.

What Are Hunters

They are the lightest colored Terminids, with bright orange wings and white chitin. The official description of the Hunters is: “The pesky Hunters are known to dodge incoming fire with swift leaps. Scientists note that while this behavior might appear intelligent, it is merely a base instinct, akin to a housefly avoiding an incoming swat.” They walk on four legs but use two frontal limbs/claws to rip Helldivers to shreds.

Where to Find Hunters

You will usually find them in outposts (nests) or during a Bug Breach, but most often on patrols. A couple of them can emerge from a bug hole, so when clearing nests, be ready for that.

  • BECOME A LEGEND – You will be assembled into squads of up to four Helldivers and assigned strategic missions. Watch each other’s back – friendly fire is an unfortunate certainty of war, but victory without teamwork is impossible.
  • LOADOUTS – Rain down freedom from above, sneak through enemy territory, or grit your teeth and charge head-first into the jaws of combat. How you deliver liberty is your choice; you’ll have access to a wide array of explosive firepower, life-saving armour and battle-changing stratagems… the jewel in every Helldiver’s arsenal.
  • REQUISITION – Super Earth recognises your hard work with valuable Requisition. Use it to access different rewards that benefit you, your squad, your destroyer ship and our overall war effort.
  • THREATS – Everything on every planet wants you dead. That’s what we’re dealing with. Each enemy has distinct and unpredictable characteristics, tactics, and behaviour – but they all fight ferociously and without fear or morality.

How to Kill Hunters in Helldivers 2

Hunters do not have any inherent weaknesses or complicated mechanics that you must play around. A shot from any weapon will damage them, even better if you manage to hit the head. The only trick Hunters have is that they are fast and agile. They move out of the way when you shoot them, so weapons with automatic fire are your best bet. Additionally, they can leap from a short distance and attack simultaneously, so if you see them intentionally stopping a few meters away from you, be prepared for that.

When facing Hunters, you should have a teammate on your side and that way you guys can take these bugs off each other’s back if things get too dicey. Try fighting them in the open, where you can see them, and pick them off before they start jumping around.

They deal more damage than you’d expect, so if a couple of them jump you at the same time, you’re in for some trouble. Moreover, the worst part of the Hunters is that they “poison” you with each hit. That poison slows you down and makes you an easy target to be eaten. They can be extremely annoying if you’re trying to move away since they’ll constantly jump-attack you, keeping you slowed. Handguns and other one-handed weapons that you can shoot on the run are great for these situations. In the Polar Patriots Warbond there is a Booster, called Motivational Shocks, that helps against Hunters’ poison effect, but, unfortunately, it didn’t prove to be very effective.

Best Weapons and Stratagems Against Hunters

We found that the Diligence Marksman Rifle easily takes out Hunters in a few shots and any heavy weapon will make short work of them. The Sickle also proved to be effective, since it does not use ammo like other weapons, allowing you to constantly shoot at Hunters while they are jumping about. The MG-43 Machine Gun and M-105 Stalwart, Support Weapons that you get early on, are more than perfect for taking down Hunters. Bombing a Bug Breach, either with Grenades or with Stratagems, is a surefire way of dispatching Hunters before they get the chance to react. Tesla Tower is a great tool versus Terminids, and since it “auto-hits”, the Hunters’ speed and dodge are ignored

Having a Guard Dog can be invaluable against them, especially if they chase you around. Also, we can’t recommend the Shield Generator Backpack enough. It will negate the first couple of hits, keeping you safe from Hunter ambushes and their poison.
