Helldivers 2 has moved to the top of the Steam charts, dethroning Palworld as the year’s top performer thus far. The new title from Arrowhead Game Studios takes you on intergalactic missions to take down hostile alien enemies across the planets and defend Super Earth alongside friends or as a one-man team. As you gain experience along the way, you can unlock new weapons, cosmetics, and upgrades to optimize your build. This has led many potential players to question whether there’s loot in Helldivers 2. Here’s what you need to know before you play.
- Enlist in the Helldivers and join the fight for freedom across a hostile galaxy in a fast, frantic, and ferocious third-person shooter.
- Become a Legend – You will be assembled into squads of up to four Helldivers and assigned strategic missions. Watch each other’s back – friendly fire is an unfortunate certainty of war, but victory without teamwork is impossible.
- Loadouts – Rain down freedom from above, sneak through enemy territory, or grit your teeth and charge head-first into the jaws of combat. How you deliver liberty is your choice; you’ll have access to a wide array of explosive firepower, life-saving armour and battle-changing stratagems… the jewel in every Helldiver’s arsenal.
- Requisition – Super Earth recognises your hard work with valuable Requisition. Use it to access different rewards that benefit you, your squad, your destroyer ship and our overall war effort.
- Threats – Everything on every planet wants you dead. That’s what we’re dealing with. Each enemy has distinct and unpredictable characteristics, tactics, and behaviour – but they all fight ferociously and without fear or morality.
Is There Loot in Helldivers 2?
The short answer is not really, but there are other ways to unlock items in Helldivers 2. While there’s a solid selection of weapons and items like Stratagems to collect in the new title from Arrowhead, there’s a fixed amount to pick up with the progress you make in the game. This also includes coveted Medals, which you can find on outings. You can add research samples to the list, too, considering you’ll pocket a solid supply by scouring the planets.
As you rank up by completing missions, you can unlock new equipment and purchase upgrades with Research Points. This differs from common looting systems in other titles, which tend to offer up much more than what’s available in the multiplayer third-person shooter.
Granted, this system isn’t every gamer’s cup of tea. However, it’s not far off from the progression system of the original Helldivers title. That said, those who enjoyed the first installment or adjacent franchises like Diablo will likely appreciate the second entry, which offers a wide variety of cosmetics, weapons, and more through Warbond Battle Pass rewards.
