Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 is well under way, and players are diving in to participate in new events and missions. As the game heats up this summer, many are revamping their look with new skins from the Transformers line and the controversial Purradise Meowscles skin. Whether you main a male or female character, it’s a great time to revisit your appearance and overhaul your presence in the game, which might involve editing your display name now that Fortnite offers greater ways to customize your character and account.

Fortunately, the process of changing your name in Fortnite is fairly simple for those playing on Nintendo Switch, PC, or mobile devices, but it will first require you to access your account with the game’s publisher, Epic Games. The only drawback here is that the process differs a bit for PlayStation and Xbox players. With this in mind, we’ve outlined how you can change your name in Fortnite regardless which system you main.

How to Change Your Name in Fortnite (PC, Switch, Mobile)

For those playing Fortnite on PC, Nintendo Switch, or mobile devices, you can change your display name in the game by logging into your Epic Games account and following these steps.

  • Go to General Settings and look for Account Info.
  • In the text entry box labeled Display Name, enter your new name.
  • Double-check your spelling, as you can only change your display name once every two weeks.
  • If it looks good, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.

As outlined in a tutorial posted by Epic Games, you can only complete this process once you’ve verified the e-mail address associated with your account. If you haven’t done so, be sure to get verified before attempting to change your Fortnite display name.

How to Change Your Name in Fortnite (PlayStation & Xbox)

If you completed the above process hoping to see your Fortnite display name updated on PlayStation or Xbox consoles, you likely noticed that it didn’t affect your PSN ID or Xbox Gamertag. Unfortunately, this is because you’ll need to change either username on your respective console in order to effectively change your display name in Fortnite. Depending on the age of your system(s), the process may differ, but remains generally the same.

To change your PSN ID:

  • Sign in to Account Management.
  • Select Profile from the sidebar.
  • Look for your current online ID, and select Edit.
  • Enter your new ID and follow the provided instructions.
  • Once complete, you will be signed out of all associated devices, requiring you to sign in again with your new ID.

To change your Xbox Gamertag:

  • Press the Xbox button in the enter of your controller.
  • Go to Profile & System.
  • Choose your desired Xbox profile.
  • Select My Profile.
  • Select Customize Profile.
  • Select your current Gamertag.
  • Under Choose Your New Gamertag, enter your new username in the provided text entry box.
  • Note that your desired Gamertag must be available in order to keep it. Click Check Availability to confirm.
  • When you’re ready, go to the next page to review your entered Gamertag.
  • If everything looks good, click Change Gamertag to save your changes.

Once you’ve changed your PSN ID or Xbox Gamertag, double-check to see your updated display name in Fortnite.
