Still going strong in 2023, Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 is well under way, encouraging players to visit new locations, obtain new weapons, and get their hands on all-new skins. While the battle royale title has sensationalized aspects like online matchmaking and providing a huge variety of skins, it’s not exactly known for its extensive character customization. In fact, it’s better known for its lacking thereof. Unless you’ve purchased a Battle Pass or earned individual skins, you’ll be assigned one of Fortnite’s eight default skins when you enter a match, lending you a 50/50 chance of playing as either a male or female character. In a way, this can be remedied with skins.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to permanently alter the gender of your character through the Fortnite lobby. However, you can change your character’s gender by applying the skins at your disposal, obtained in one of several ways. You might opt to spend cold, hard cash on V-Bucks to get new skins, but this isn’t entirely necessary. Here’s how you can change your character’s gender in Fortnite with the help of skins.
How to Change Gender in Fortnite (Male/Female)
There are two ways to change the gender of your character in Fortnite.
- Enter a new game with a 50/50 chance of being assigned either a male or female character.
- Apply a skin to your character.
While you certainly have the freedom to take your chances with randomized character selection, opting to apply a gendered skin is the easiest way to change your gender in Fortnite. You can do this by purchasing skins with V-Bucks, receiving them as gifts, or obtaining them through a Battle Pass. In any case, you don’t need to spend your hard-earned cash to get skins, so changing your gender isn’t a tough fix. Just make sure the skin you want is available for your preferred gender.
To change your gender with Fortnite skins:
- Open the main menu in Fortnite.
- Navigate to the Locker tab, indicated by a clothing hanger icon if you’re using a default character. If you have a skin equipped, the icon will instead resemble your current skin.
- Click to select your current character.
- A selection of available Outfits will appear.
- From the menu, browse the male/female skins you’ve earned or purchased and select which you’d like to apply.
- Once you’ve chosen a new Outfit, click Equip to save.
Note that some skins have a number of styles with them, among which can be a different gender. When you select a skin from your locker, will see an Edit Style button, next to the Equip button. Click on it and you can then choose a specific style for your skin, if any are available.
How to Change Your Character to Female in Fortnite
You can change your character to female by equipping an Outfit in Fortnite. Some Outfits only come in a male version or vice versa, so be sure to select your skin carefully, especially if you’re deciding on a purchase. With an available skin in mind, just head to your Locker and equip it as desired.
The method is the same for every platform, be it Windows PC, Mac, IOS, Andriod, Xbox, Switch, or PlayStation.
Epic Games regularly introduces new skins to Fortnite, often befitting a theme or pop culture reference.
