Diablo 4 – How to Auto Attack

To auto-attack in Diablo 4, you must enable a setting in the accessibility options to do so. After Diablo 4 is launched, head into the Settings menu, navigate to the Accessibility tab, and scroll down to Controls section. Under Controls, find Persist Target Lock, which is off by default.

Enabling Persist Target Lock will allow your character to automatically target the nearest enemies without the need for manual mouse button input. This means that we still had to execute our core skills manually on cooldown. Meanwhile, the basic attack was handled automatically, regardless of our chosen class. This feature significantly streamlined our combat enjoyment, with no need for constant left-clicking. It lets you focus on the abilities from your skill tree, your resources, and your gear performance.

How To Attack Without a Target in Diablo 4

On the other hand, sometimes you’ll find yourself needing to attack without a direct target, either to keep your distance or to destroy mindless objects that are in your way. In Diablo 4, we found that it’s pretty straightforward on PC. All you need to do is to hold down the SHIFT button on your keyboard. Doing so, your character will remain stationary and can attack or cast, even without a direct enemy target in sight.

While this isn’t as handy for most melee classes like the Druid, for ranged or magic users such as the Sorcerer being able to target and use spells from a distance without needing to move was incredibly useful. Give auto attack a try, and if you don’t like it, you can always turn the feature off again.
