Remembering The Game Boy Advance: A Decade To Cherish

OXCGN:

"2001 was a year of great advancement in the gaming world. The sixth generation of gaming consoles were just getting their boots wet, and had yet to diversify themselves in software.

"Halo wouldn’t rock the world until November.

"Online gaming was still a luxury to be had by PC gamers only (not counting the Dreamcast).

"The Game Boy Color was a massive success, and Nintendo knew that they had to follow it up with something ten times as good (which had to be one of the most daunting tasks ever undertaken). To say that tensions were high would be an understatement."

Man, what a system it was...

LiamIRL824717d ago (Edited 4717d ago )

It was a nice system, nice shape

Belgavion4717d ago

I stepped on one of these recently

gaminoz4717d ago

Did it survive? Back then they built them pretty tough...

tairua74717d ago (Edited 4717d ago )

i bet it didn't break eh ahahahhaha there are tough and ahahahahhha not built the easy

BadCircuit4717d ago

I remember that test someone did with a Gamecube, a PS2 and an Xbox and the Gamecube survived more abuse than the others...But I doubt the Wii would.

BadCircuit4717d ago

I still think I have one of those somewhere...I still love Pokemon, but now I play it on the DS.

parasit34717d ago

Pokemon is lame now, yes I'm talking the DS. Jus wasn't the same after RBY and GSC gens.

SaiyanFury4717d ago

Decent article that made a few good points. I think the author found himself waxing nostalgic more about Pokemon than the GBA, but that's cool. It was a good system, indeed. I still have my GBA SP and use it to this day. My favourite point the author stated was this, "This was a time when gamers were used to getting less, versus being entitled to everything like these days."

Just a personal opinion, but from my own perspective, I do find a lot of people have an entitlement mentality. Just something to note.

XboxOZ3604717d ago

Agree with you 110% there re 'entitlement mentality' of gamers these days.

They get some of the best technologically advanced games, brilliant gameplay, great packaging, lengths of games, new innovative ideas - what do they do, complain it 'wasn't enough', or why was it so long coming (a year later)

Days-gone-by gamers had to wait months between game releases, these days you can have upwards of 30 - 40 game release per month on a variety of platforms, and still they are not satisfied.

It's great to see a younger gamer appreciating the benefits of games form even just a decade ago, 10 points.

BadCircuit4717d ago

And now we don't want to replay games or have to redo levels over and over to pass them.

XboxOZ3604715d ago

@ BadCircuit :

Which is a sad, but true fact, sadly many younger or newer gamers miss out on a great deal of content simply because they are either too lazy, get bored too easily, or simply do not have the paintence to go through something a few times.

Nothing is learnt instantly, it comes from repetition and examination.

It's why so many new games get returned or exchanged within the first 24-48 hours of release. The retention rate for games these days is marginal at best.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5085d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5085d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Jack-Pyro5085d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495085d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5085d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5085d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
