The Xbox One version of The Witcher 3 Collector's Edition is to receive additional physical content unavailable in the PS4 or PC versions, Bandai Namco has announced.
If the xbox version is getting more then they better lower the damn price for the PS4 & PC versions. Who the hell is going to pay the same price for less? Exclusive digital content is one thing, but now it's affecting physical stuff like collector's editions of games? Now i've seen it all...
Yeah, I wonder if the price of the Collectors Editions on other platforms will be reduced. I'm not really bothered though as I couldn't afford the Collectors Edition anyway.
remember this guys ? CD Projekt Red: "" We'll not deliver exclusive content to any of the platforms "" http://www.escapistmagazine... and this is why i NEVER believe any word come out of 3rd party developer
I usually just buy collector's editions mainly for RPG's so this has me kinda irritated since I was going to get this on PS4. Sort of a cheap tactic if you ask me because this will obviously bait collectors into buying it just because it has two different items. I really hope this doesn't become a trend, it's bad enough that we get our games with content cut up all sorts of ways, but now they want to cut into CE's? smh.....
@Ezz The link you provided talks about IN GAME stuff. Physical content doesn't affect the game at all
@Ezz2013 They meant exclusive game content, all these bonus physical items don't affect how the game plays.
@xHeavYx @Elit3Nick i do know that but still isn't that still an Exclusive content ? Physical or not they are still exclusive content which they said they will never do that also the article didn't specify In game content or not
@Ezz I think they mean in game content.
@Ezz2013 They meant "in-game" content. They made it very clear that the game would be the same (content-wise) across all platforms. By their very nature, Collector's Editions are "exclusive" to only those who buy them.
There's less stuff in them so they should be in my opinion.
@ archangel...get a job ya bum..i kid. But yes, I don't think this is too big of a deal. digital or physical...it all holds value. This to me is really no diff than additional in-game content. If you don't but the collectors, you aren't really missing out on life anyways
@Ezz They changed their mind when MS threw money in their face.
Microsoft's chequebook warfare wins again. Phil Spencer can ask Bill Gates for unlimited money to deprive other brand console owners and in the end there isn't a single third party company that can say no. It don't matter how good the quality of Nintendo and Sony's games are. It doesn't matter how much they invest in indies and experimental titles. It doesn't matter how much they listen to developers and make quality hardware and sell more units - Microsoft will ultimately buy anything that is a hit and all the competition will die out. :(
So the extra "content" is a map and a deck of cards. sounds more like extra contents as in inside the box. Doesnt sound like anything of great significance and it looks like the map and cards can be used with any version of the game no matter the platform. sort of how gamestop will add in a trinket to get people to buy from them instead of target or walmart. Yet the game itself is the same across the board.
@ mrpumble Get over it. Tell your company of choice to make better business decisions if you want them to get better or more content. That's plain and simple. I wouldn't get mad at the next guy for what they can afford. If I really wanted it I would go out there and make more money. That doesn't hurt the industry at all.
@mrpumbelchook, relax my friend, sony's chequebook got destiny, which is a bigger, and probably more expense deal than this one. You're ok...
Easy guys, it's just an exclusive pen with the witcher 3 logo on it ;-)
It will still be overpriced anyways.... As is 99% collectors.
@pumblechook You do realize Microsoft has never won a console generation, correct? And guess what? They ain't winnin' this one either. There goes your spectacularly flawed logic.
The exclusive third party wars is getting old. Buy the studio or get off the pot. Retailers included. If you like it you should put a ring on it. I remember the watchdogs exclusive content chart... This thing: http://www.somethingawful.c... Seriously, out of hand... income inequality excluded even.
People keep mentioning DLC content as an excuse for for the extra content in the Xbox One CE version of The Witcher 3 but it does not equate. Exclusive to console DLC always comes to all versions of the game it is exclusive to(regular and Collectors Editions). That's a problem but a different problem from offering exclusive physical items. People buy these CE's at a premium to specifically get the extra physical content, they pay extra money for it. Shorting other formats of the game physical content in a CE does not make sense. The people that buy these things don't wan't to feel short changed. Expect a lot of these (PS4 and PC versions) to be sold at bargain price a couple of month's from it's release. How is this Witcher 3 CE going to make any difference in Microsoft's sales or image? they don't even make that many of them. Doesn't make any sense for them to even do this.
Why is Vishmarx comment considered trolling? Thats what they are doing with tomb raider and thy'll keep doing it.
@Eddie I hear Witcher fans are pretty hardcore. They may be more likely to go for this content, especially since it seems like a crapload of it. (From the picture I thought it was a console bundle). That may be why?
Why our prices for Watchdog or AC black weren't lowered and Destiny is still the same price and we are getting less now and during expansion packs . But yet you think you deserve some price reductions.
Maybe they should be though. Why not complain about it instead of trying to call out hypocrisy. Many people would love to see the exclusive content crap die a timely death.
Only the guys like the ones from Big Bang theory buy those things which shouldn't effect normal people. Normal people have bigger things to worry about versus first world problems.
Your post gave me a headache, let me help: "Only people like the characters of The Big Bang Theory buy this sort of thing, it shouldn't affect normal people. Normal people have bigger things to worry about. Silly first world problems"
double post :/
@lazygoron it looks as though you're new to this site so I'm going to warn you right now; N4G has some of the worst English you'll see on the internet. hope you have some painkillers on standby!
Torchic, Some of these people don't use English as their primary language. Ease up on them.
@BlackTar187 you can usually tell when English is the poster's 2nd language or if it's their 1st but with really bad grammatical errors. many errors can only be made by a 1st language speaker
@LazyGoron Thanks Grammar nazi!
But with a name like Reddzfoxx, the odds of him not being American- or at least a native English speaker- are pretty slim. That said, not sure how I feel about this. It's kinda minor stuff, but at the same time, it sucks if editions for other platforms don't get the stuff but pay the same price. I was thinking it'd be okay, though, as it would be like a special service to fans. But then I realized it would make the most sense for this to be for PC, not XB1.
Guess I'll actually respond to your comment instead of call you out on grammar. There are a lot of collectors out there who buy this kind of stuff. It's obvious given the number of collector's editions that we now see with even the most mediocre of games. For collectors, the collectors editions often hold some value which makes them collectible. The same way some people collect stamps or coins, so do game collectors collect games, and stuff related to games. In the case of some(roughly half) collector's editions, their value actually increases over time, making them more an investment to those that actually know how to judge which ones are truly collectible, and ones that are just garbage cash ins. I can guarantee you for most collector's editions which are truly limited, and highly desirable, most of them go unopened so they retain their value.
Awesome I'll definitely be getting this on my XBOX ONE. Thanks CD Projekt Red.
I agree to some extent but I honestly feel that there is no point to be up in arms about it as all they're getting is a world map and a deck of poker cards. Had it been the necklace or statue, then I'd see the point in it.
Yep.. It's Physical content. So unless you want a Witcher 3 stuffed toy or keychain who really cares.
People buy them for the physical content, the whole point of Collectors Editions.
I don't even know why you bothered to respond with the obvious. I've stated useless you want physical trinkets, who cares. I've never said no one cares.
Remember Watch Dogs? PS4 had 1 hour extra content Xbox didn't. Don't hold your breath for a price cut
That makes no sense
If the Xbox One edition gets extra physical content in it's collectors edition and the other Playstation and PC versions do not, then the Playstaiton 4 and PC versions should cost less than the Xbox One version. It's not the same as offering exclusive DlC at a cost. Seems like another third party studio being greedy for Microsoft's cash. Makes both Microsoft and the publisher not only look greedy but kinda stupid too. I would think they would want to sell the limited edition to everyone that wants to buy the game for their respective system. Now I think the CE may sell considerably worse on PC and Playstaiton 4 because of this stupid move.
Maybe they're hoping people will pick up the Xbox One version in addition to the version they'll be playing on the PS4/PC? Some collector's will do that...although not many.
That is stupid.
Really, because I remember paying full price on Watch Dogs for Xbox One and I didn't get to 60 full minutes of extra gameplay that the sony verison got.
What's the point in that I mean seriously they better drop the price of the other versions.
True TBH i didn't like Witcher 1/2 and thought Witcher 3 looked awesome but after reading this i don't know if i will still get the pc version at launch
Why would they drop the price? Microsoft basically bought a bunch of stuff for their version of the collectors edition. So the extra cost is already paid for, by Microsoft. Other versions aren't getting less, X1 version is just getting more.
Since you didn't like the first two games, i very much doubt you will suddenly love the 3rd game. It seems like you're trying to start a fire, where there isn't one to begin with. People are getting exactly the same game, except for some physical fluff that'll be irrelevant shortly after. It would be understandable, if they were offering in-game advantages. I could say good riddance, because of less misinformation when the game releases, but CDPR needs the money more so than the larger publishers.
@roccetarius no, i'm not trying to start any thing i will still get witcher 3 because i like that it's ture open world this time and Witcher look too much badass with the awesome combat in witcher 3
@XBLSkull An interesting perspective. I guess it comes down to trust. Do you trust that money was paid to give customers more, or do you believe it was paid so that the competition's customers get less? It's the same question with digital content. I will say that by the very nature of digital content there's hope to get formerly "exclusive" content later on down the line, whereas with a physical item like a CE you get what you get.
@xblskull But that would just make sense. Please don't use logic.... Logic make brain hurt.
If that happens, then people are going to demand that they drop the price of games if one version of the game has more digital content then other version. Ex. Destiny's PS3/PS4 version should be more expensive then the X360/X1 version since it has more digital content.
Good. Then if enough people do it for long enough, maybe this whole exclusive content crap can just stop.
that would cause some serious problems if they did that.... it'd tumble into certain stores having to price higher because they get X exclusive in store or as mentioned above and below PS3/4 games having to be more expensive on alot of the ubisoft games, xbox 360/1 for the COD games.... and on and on and on
No big deal to me. I have a PS4 CE preorder. A map & a deck of cards changes nothing.
Didn't see you complain that Destiny should have lower price on XO since ps4 is getting some extra content. That's just silly argument. Any extra content on any platform just sucks. @equal_youth I actually preffer a beautifully crafted, physical card game in my special edition that XO is getting, instead of a skin for a sword in-game or a new hairstyle for Geralt.
In game content is totally different from content in a collectors edition where the whole point you spending all this money is to get lots of goodies....seeing another version get more when your paying the same is stupid. Least with the exclusive content in a game it will finally make it's way to other consoles. Your not just buying the game FOR the extra stuff are you where for a collectors edition that's the whole point.
Why would they? PS4 Has destiny exclusive content so does watch dogs and I don't hear anyone else crying about a price. God forbid the xbox get something the ps4 doesn't the whole world goes to shit!
At least it's comming to ps4, I bought a 360 just to play the witcher 2.
exclusive physical content? thats all CD Project would give ms for their money? more or less amusing. i can imagine ms running wild and just throwing money at every big developer to get a little bit of exclusivity.
You mean like Sony does as well? Destiny, Watch Dogs,Far Cry...
What exclusive physical content do any of these games have dudebro: Destiny, Watch Dogs,Far Cry... Nothing? Oh dang!
I like how you won't acknowledge that's a response to moves like MS throwing $50 million at GTA IV (a game which cost $100 million to develop) just for timed dlc. I like how certain people want to play the "Sony does as well" game, refusing to acknowledge that MS created this environment. While MS was money-hatting, Sony was letting PS2 franchises like GTA, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, etc. go multiplat. It's always "Sony does it too," until it's time to prematurely crow about how MS is going to money-hat away exclusives from imminently bankrupt Sony.
@Lecreuset My favorite part of that whole line of thinking is that they use it to try to imply that it's quite OK. They seem to have no real opinion on the actual topic, or at least can't express it, but instead use it as a way to try and call out hypocrisy or justify it's existence.
Comments like this are why the Console Wars are truly the worst.
How so? The sentiment of that comment is true. The purchasing power of MS' money-hat is diminishing to comic levels. Console wars are good. What's bad is the last couple of years that have bred a certain type of fan that cares less about making the console wars work for them and more about shilling for a company. That's how we get gloating about money-hatting dlc for an entire generation only to get mad when it comes back and bites us in the butt.
Console wars are NOT good. Having competition in the marketplace is great, but this current climate of "everybody pick a team and take every choice personally" is an embarrassment to the industry.
I already pre-ordered it for $47.99 on pc and I have to say, I couldn't care less about "physical exclusives." the game is exactly the same on all platforms. Cd projekt red has always released its dlc for free and plans to continue to do so. So, quit your bitching.
