The Witcher 3 Collector's Edition getting exclusive physical content on Xbox One

The Xbox One version of The Witcher 3 Collector's Edition is to receive additional physical content unavailable in the PS4 or PC versions, Bandai Namco has announced.

I usually just buy collector's editions mainly for RPG's so this has me kinda irritated since I was going to get this on PS4. Sort of a cheap tactic if you ask me because this will obviously bait collectors into buying it just because it has two different items. I really hope this doesn't become a trend, it's bad enough that we get our games with content cut up all sorts of ways, but now they want to cut into CE's? smh.....

People keep mentioning DLC content as an excuse for for the extra content in the Xbox One CE version of The Witcher 3 but it does not equate.

Exclusive to console DLC always comes to all versions of the game it is exclusive to(regular and Collectors Editions). That's a problem but a different problem from offering exclusive physical items. People buy these CE's at a premium to specifically get the extra physical content, they pay extra money for it. Shorting other formats of the game physical content in a CE does not make sense. The people that buy these things don't wan't to feel short changed.

Expect a lot of these (PS4 and PC versions) to be sold at bargain price a couple of month's from it's release.

How is this Witcher 3 CE going to make any difference in Microsoft's sales or image? they don't even make that many of them. Doesn't make any sense for them to even do this.

There are a lot of collectors out there who buy this kind of stuff. It's obvious given the number of collector's editions that we now see with even the most mediocre of games.

For collectors, the collectors editions often hold some value which makes them collectible. The same way some people collect stamps or coins, so do game collectors collect games, and stuff related to games.

In the case of some(roughly half) collector's editions, their value actually increases over time, making them more an investment to those that actually know how to judge which ones are truly collectible, and ones that are just garbage cash ins.

I can guarantee you for most collector's editions which are truly limited, and highly desirable, most of them go unopened so they retain their value.

If the Xbox One edition gets extra physical content in it's collectors edition and the other Playstation and PC versions do not, then the Playstaiton 4 and PC versions should cost less than the Xbox One version.

It's not the same as offering exclusive DlC at a cost.

Why would they drop the price? Microsoft basically bought a bunch of stuff for their version of the collectors edition. So the extra cost is already paid for, by Microsoft. Other versions aren't getting less, X1 version is just getting more.

I will say that by the very nature of digital content there's hope to get formerly "exclusive" content later on down the line, whereas with a physical item like a CE you get what you get.

I have the collectors edition on order for the PS4 as I enjoyed the previous Witcher games and the statue looks awesome.
Just because MS throw money around for extra items like the cards and a cloth map just shows how desperate MS are.

And before anyone goes on the fanboy rant I can actually admit I own an XBone as it was bought for me for an Xmas gift but the machine is just not that good.
MS threw money at CD for Tomb Raider but couldn't secure complete exclusivity as after the fiasco with TF there aren't many companies with a brain who would go with that kind or risk.

My PS3 collectors edition batarang that came with my PS3 version of Batman Arkham Asylum works just as well sitting on top of my Xbox 360 as it does sitting on top of my PS3.

Well more bang for my 150 bucks, I guess I keep the card decks next to the statue. Come on people, the way I see it they just thrown in a deck of cards for free and made the map cloth. The main part is still the statue.

I mean once I get my LE, I am probably going to look at the cards and books once and put it back into the box and have the statue on display on my shelf, everybody needs to "KEEP CALM, CARRY ON"!!!

I think everyone needs to relax. It's a given that, when a game launches with some kind of special edition, it tends to do big numbers. That said, we see that sales have been somewhat one-sided this generation. If nothing else, it's incentive for gamers to not ignore the Xbox One versions. Will it deter gamers with PlayStation 4 from getting it for PlayStation 4? Highly unlikely. I think the developers just don't want to waste resources making a second edition that won't sell out. In other words, a necessary push that they likely won't need on PlayStation 4. I believe they'll be watching sales and will make plans accordingly for their next title.

It could also be compensation if the Xbox One version runs less than optimally when compared to the PS4 version. I've already decided I'll be getting The Witcher 3 on PlayStation 4, so if differences exist, I haven't been keeping track.
