Earthbound on Wii U means anything is possible

"After today’s stunner of an announcement via Nintendo Direct regarding the longed-for re-release of Earthbound on Wii U, I hereby declare that everything is possible.

Okay, maybe not everything, but this sudden acknowledgement of the Earthbound/Mother series’ existence by Nintendo of America came out of left field for a lot of people, myself included. You need only look at the outpouring of happiness from folks on Twitter to know that the company made fans’ days with that single announcement.

That being said, what took them so damn long!? I’ll get to that in a moment, but first, some history."

one time i saw a guy in miiverse saying how nintendo didn't even check the posts on there. I guess he was wrong. the mother 2 release shows that miiverse can be a viable direct source of information of 'what the fans want'. Where this could lead I don't know, but atleast we can say the VERY passionate mother fans will be calm and stop spammin the virtual console communities.

DA_SHREDDER4041d ago

Yeah, I always see Nintendo employees responding to questions.

DragonKnight4041d ago

Miiverse did nothing. The fans have wanted Earthbound on VC since the concept was announced for the Wii. All this means is that Nintendo finally ironed out the licensing problems that arose thanks to the painter of Dali's Clock.

Anyway, as much as I love Earthbound, I'll stick to playing the original since I don't want a Wii U.

admiralvic4041d ago

To further this, how is the acknowledgment sudden? We had Ness in Smash Bros from the start, with several items being included (Mr. Saturn) and even Lucas in the latest version.

Heck, hasen't Nintendo gone on record that the issue with it was licensing on more than one occasion? I mean it's great for fans, but this has been a long time coming and the only shock for me is that it worked out in the end.

dedicatedtogamers4041d ago

It took EB fans years and years to get it sent to the Virtual Console. Ironically, if this is WiiU only, it means that all those fans with a Wii who have been fighting for this game to finally be released are S.O.L if they don't get a WiiU.

Actually I think Iwata mentioned in a ND that they do read every post!
Which is pretty damn cool to have that kind of direct feedback...

Goes to show that Nintendo can and apparently does listen to their fans. With any luck they will at least try to bring the other Mother games over in some shape or form some day.

animegamingnerd4041d ago

the battle for earthbound on VC is over but the war for a official mother 1 and 3 release outside of japan wages on

kirbyu4041d ago

If this means ANYTHING, this means Nintendo will make:

Pokemon Snap 2
Mother 3 Localization
Pokemon MMO
Animal Crossing MMO?
Mario Paint Wii U
Pokemon Stadium Sequel on Wii U
Traditional Pokemon Games on Wii U
A Crossover That Isn't Smash Bros.
Marvel Vs. Capcom Vs. Nintendo Vs. SEGA Vs. Namco Vs. Nickelodeon Vs. Mortal Kombat

DEATHxTHExKIDx4041d ago

well a one crossover that isnt smash bros is Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem.

wheresmymonkey4041d ago

you forgot Eternal Darkness 2. But they did just extend the copyright on that....

CouldHaveYelledUiiW4041d ago

I will be EternaLly grateful to nintendo for lifting the Darkness of not having "earthbound" available to all audiences. I am glad they are listening to us.

Kudos to Ninty outing this epic but "rare" gem.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
