Amen. I saw this article and thought "Einhander, Einhander, please be Einhander," but to no avail. Apparently my Force powers are not good enough to influence Sony's classics marketing strategy :S
But yes, we need that super-sleek Japanese mech/ship action here soon. Even when this happens, I'll be looking at the PS2 stuff and either pushing for back comp or hoping for a Zone of the Enders 1 and 2 update. Or ZOE3 would be nice. Sigh.
...and hey, Sega...
My old 40gb PS3 was in mint freakin' condition. Installed this firmware, got my copy of Katamari Forever, played it, and things froze. Returned the game and got a new one, and that wasn't even read by the PS3. Tried other games and a movie, no dice. Reformatted the hard drive and all I got was a deletion of all my game data (well, I backed up the saves, but you know... Rock Band, Soul Calibur, you can't do the same thing to those). Yes, the Blu-Ray drive kicked the bucket. Sad, sad day. ...
It's not a good idea to be loyal to any company - which, by definition in a capitalist system, is just out for your money. It's not that our system is wrong or bad, it's just a product of how we are right now, but please take companies for what they are and not some idealistic vanguard that you join by purchasing their stuff.
For example, how's that Nintendo loyalty treating you? Did you like Metroid? How about Wii Music? Just as good, right?
@Sarcasm, let's go a bit ...
For a while, I was laughing at all of this failure-rate nonsense! I never had one of my consoles crap out on me before... until last week. My old 40GB PS3's Blu-Ray lens died in the middle of my first play-through of Katamari Forever. Thankfully, due to a deal with Gamestop on PS3 trade-ins, I was able to get quite a bit for it while purchasing a Slim, even with the refurbishing fee.
It's good that Microsoft has a 3-year warranty, but I'd really like to have a system that ke...
This is great! Kojima Productions is beginning to spread itself out, and Natal projects will surely be part of their stuff in the future.
Can we just say right now that we still don't know what Natal will actually be at release? By the time Natal comes out, this 360 stuff will be affordable enough for PS3 owners to pick it up. If Natal is treated just as another controller and not a reason to make Wii-esque BS minigames, as this article is showing signs of, the core PS3 game...
DQX is going to be on the Wii. I don't have a Wii because they've been shunning traditional genres like JRPG's for years. That makes me a sad panda.
You could say that all three of those games just borrow heavily from older games, too. It's just that not everyone played those old American RPG's, so when they get a Mass Effect, they're flipping out over innovation that they think was created in a 2-year vacuum.
Turn-based JRPG's do play a lot like they did ten years ago - there are menus, fire spells, a Satan-esque villain, plenty of cliches out there.
First-person shooters play a lot like they did when the first...
I think you're mixing up your Clouds and Tiduses (or is that Tidi?). Cloud was the Grunge-GenX kid with spiky hair and big eyes. Tidus was the whiny high-pitched brat (but only in the English voiceover!) but had much smaller eyes in comparison to most characters in the JRPG line! Then you've got the Emo kid in Squall and the... Idunno... kid-monkey that pees off cliffs in Zidane.
They're all pretty different, but just like any genre, the knockoffs blow the cliches out of propor...
Great article! I especially liked how he drew an analogy between wanting to do everything and go anywhere in JRPG's to throwing fireballs in Madden or sim-driving in an FPS. While it can be cool to have some choices and see those outcomes later on (I'm forgetting RPG's that did that well - didn't the Suikoden series have a bit of that?), these games are here to engage the player in a great story, not have the player make up a story.
Australia, I love you, but you are crazy. The extent that the Australian government goes to for censorship has been getting in the way of gaming for years - look how much it made Rockstar flip out and self-censor itself - http://www.kotaku.com.au/20...
This article isn't about Sony distributing hentai over PSN or anything, it's just about addressing the c...
ahem, ahem...
No! It will not!
That is all.

Wow, Sankaku Complex! I'm glad there's a site out there that requires the reader to put his/her job on the line in order to enjoy some super-authoritative journalism. Look out, Big Scary Media, here comes Sankaku!
But anyway... let's wait and see if we hear about this from a real source. One we can view in a public place. Then we can moan and groan about litigation like the great gamers that we are.
I'm not seeing the "It's only a career mode, it didn't deserve the low score" contingent's argument here. Some sort of mode that lets you enjoy the game in a rewarding, well-paced fashion (at the very least) should be in any game boasting a single-player experience. This is what made R4 so awesome (well, that and the music). It's not time to throw the single-player experience away and create GT-Hawk.
As a huge fan of good PSP games, good racing games, and good singl...
Agreed! It looked a lot better than it played last time around, and it seemed like a ramped-up freeware endeavor. I remember playing it and immediately wanting to play the sequel- I would think they will have much less trouble with the graphics end and hopefully incorporate more traditional shmup rules -especially with tiny insects not taking a billion hits to kill.
Both hilarious and possibly contrived. I'm not sure this guy was serious. If he's got enough talent to rip video from his own console (hopefully he didn't just rip it from another video), he should know that this is one crap-tastic video.
I don't know what "loyal" has to do with doing your job. I think he did an amazing job for years with the company and now he's got himself a shiny new promotion, which is awesome. I'm sure he's relieved to not be in charge of Fischer-Pricedo anymore, but it's definitely more about his own merits than "I am deserting my Nintendo brethren!!"
@IdleLee - A fourth contender... all I can think of Sega making an awful system with a 3D Sonic God of War clone... maybe three is okay.
Agreed. It was great to hear about PS3 sales, but they lost me at "PSPgo." I'm very happy with my 2000 model and I'm not ready to pay out the wazoo for some overpriced version of it.
Mike, that's a really good guess! It makes sense to have a "Red/Blue" variant to promote the 360 where it's weaker. Maybe the small differences between the two will all be included here, where 360 isn't very concerned about building a userbase.
Good observation about a mellow time getting a high score in Katamari! From my experience, you only score high in Katamari when you do not think about scoring high and just get to know the stage, never stopping to latch on to that one item that you can't get yet. You'll get it at some point, just roll.
