Dude, I wish the 360 was an HD version of the original Xbox! Maybe we would have had a new wave of awesome Sega games if that were the case. Unfortunately, I enjoy the original Xbox classics (JSRF, Gunvalkyrie, Panzer Dragoon Orta, etc.) much more than I enjoy a lot of the current-gen material, namely the "realistic" green-and-brown shooters that never go away and always make tons of money.
@MarineLife - Yeah, what he said. I wish I could say that much content in two sentences!
I thought the DI demo was pretty weird. The CG cutscenes were awesome, but when it cut to the actual game, the graphics did not hold up. That would be fine if the game's mechanics were on par with something like Bayonetta or Batman: AA, but they weren't - it was the same old combo-grind that would have been acceptable in the days of GOW1, but not now.
The fights so far were pretty badly designed - here's a bland arena, here's a bunch of enemies, kill them and proceed. Here's...
This really didn't measure what it thought it was measuring. Including disc-based The Biggest Loser for Wii but not including Pixeljunk Shooter, Shatter, 'Splosion Man, or Shadow Complex in the same argument misses the point. Just because it's in a box doesn't mean it's in the same category as everything else in a box. Many of the disc-based Wii games are in the same content boat as smaller downloadable titles.
Next, they'll go compare the online stores separately, but see ab...
Looks like I underestimated you, HHG! N'Gai plugged you, and you've got some GOWIII footage over there. Good show!
You know, I'm not much of a Wii gamer myself, but I'm really glad to see the Wii get such strong numbers with NewSMB coming out. This shows that good, challenging games may still have a place in the Nintendo lineup, and Nintendo can benefit from releasing these instead of just WiiFit/Music stuff.
As for PS3/360, good job! That's all.
Doesn't he have quite a say with Platinum though? I mean, I miss the days when Mizuguchi was knee-deep in game creation, but Q still does a great job and his influence shows through. I would think that Kamiya has a hand in Bayonetta's design.
@Mastiff - Wow, really? I typically agree with you, but Bayonetta, for me at least, plays very differently than the DMC series. It sure *looks* like DMC at times, especially with the menus and item displays, but it really took away my least favorite part of those games (see my other comment on combo memorization earlier).
Maybe we're seeing it differently because you're much better at the combo stuff than I am, which is totally possible, but I see the game more as a blend of D...
Well, sure, GOW came from the lineage that included DMC, but you can take that back pretty far to the brawlers of old also. You're supposed to take the best things from a genre, improve upon them, and add innovations. You can't just reinvent the wheel constantly - no one's at fault for improving on previous games.
Both GOWIII and Bayonetta add their innovations to the genre. The comparison as to which is better is a joke because GOWIII does not have a retail release yet, and t...
I understand that demos don't always give you a great picture (ahem, Brutal Legend), but they can give you insight into the core gameplay at times. Bayonetta's NA PS3 demo really changed my opinion of the game because of how it worked.
On the other hand, yeah, comparing the entire games right now is a bit silly since GOWIII doesn't really exist yet.
@Darkstorn - Yeah, I thought it was weird that when I posted that my Blu-ray lens had died out on my old PS3 Fat, I got "disagrees" all over the place. I don't see where that comes from... "I disagree that your system is no longer playable?" Weird. Got a Slim, now everything's cool. Hopefully that'll last as long as my PS2!
What he said.
I can't wait for GOWIII- I love the production values Santa Monica brings to the table, the epic-ness of it all, it's awesome. The mechanics are also very similar to the past titles so far. The Bayonetta team, on the other hand, has the freedom to throw some DMC elements out of the mix since it's a new franchise. I think one of the big differences between the two is the emphasis (or lack thereof) on combo memorization.
I really like Bayonetta because...
... Dude, it's about growth. You can't sit on your laurels. Hershey isn't jumping for joy over the amount of chocolate it sold over the past 50 years internally, it's looking to make sure its stock value doesn't decline by increasing profits *now.*
We're talking about the non-PR numbers, the declining sales... like these:
I'd agree if it was GeoSpark instead. That game is amazing... and one dollar.
Guys, guys! Slow down! When a list starts at 1 and moves to 10, chances are the order wasn't that important. It's just a group of 10, not a ranking. However, I've got my gripes with this one.
Some of these descriptions on the list are ridiculous. Have you ever seen anyone else gush over DJ Hero the way the author did? Then you see New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and he says it may surpass DJ Hero as the party game of the year? This just in: DJ Hero was going to be the "pa...
@Raztad - Wouldn't a good aggregator include the reviews and then take the top and bottom outliers out of the cumulative score?
Ergh. I guess the key word there is "good."
So who's going to call foul because someone wants to get hits on their site? Just because someone shouldn't do that doesn't mean they can't do that. Is Destructoid a non-profit organization with a mission? Capitalist ethics at work: If you don't like it, don't go to Destructoid. But...
I certainly hope it's leading to Dead Space 2 being announced. It would be a nice message to the world that EA hasn't given up on its more daring franchises despite their latest business moves.
It's selling well enough, but not for the business world. They're interested in growth, not stagnant (but good) sales. It does seem counter-intuitive, but stakeholders in the company will want more expansion- constantly bigger profits than the previous year. It's all about the growth of share values.
You're not going to do that for long when everyone and their Mom has a Wii but no one's buying actual games for it. Unless they do something new soon, they're going to be the Nin...
There's no reason why they wouldn't re-box UFC every year. It sold like hotcakes and saved THQ singlehandedly. Think about it: which gaming consumer group would not be able to see through a plot to fleece cash by shunning new fighter DLC and just selling a new hard copy every year? Well, the NASCAR and Deer Hunter crowds, but after those two?
Yes, Undisputed almost has to take a Madden approach until UFC loses its appeal... well, if it does.
He's right about this, and I think Nintendo also knows it, hence their denial of a "Wii HD." The next system they're doing has to involve more than updated graphics - If your typical new-Wii(2?) game plays like your typical original Wii game, count me out.
...although I'd like to see what happens to the BIT.TRIP series with a graphics overhaul!
