Great to see composer interviews popping up! Kudos for finding this. We at least now know who wins the Macarthur Fellowship for Shiniest Bald Head this year.

I think Dragon Age has a fine soundtrack, they did a good job. Obviously, you're going to wind up borrowing from Howard Shore when you've got a Lord of the Rings-inspired game, but he did a great job of it! Cool article.

Just a final comment - I can't believe I'm getting skewered by PS3 fans for criticizing the company I tend to follow. Et tu? My opinion isn't set in stone by any means - it's a changing, wishy-washy bit of flip-floppery and I wouldn't have it any other way.

If Q or Sega ever mention Rez 3D, I'll sell limbs to get a 3D TV if that's what it takes.

Is that the one that circles around the room like the old Canada video at Epcot?

Another interesting point. Maybe this 3d gaming gimmickry actually costs less to Sony than it would to the casual, rich (read: older or spoiled-kid) audience. Maybe it sells like Wii-cakes because of that. Hmmm, you have left me with much to think about!

@soljah - Good point about the Japanese market. They're always more warmed up to new technology as a society, along with South Korea, or at least Seoul. I'd still be tentative about the US market, though - I could see this being sold as a luxury item here in limited quantities for a while.

Not so much on the different technologies - you need glasses for 3D TV's, and if you're not using these, you're killing the look of anything with stereoscopic 3D. You know, the blue and re...

Yeah. You still have to don shades, unfortunately. I wish it was just like Back to the Future 2, and we'd have 3D Jaws advertisements on the streets!

Come on, I've been involved in the same threads as you for a while now and gave you a few shoutouts - I'm a PS3/PC type of guy, and what I hadn't mentioned before is that I enjoy the majority of my gaming on a Bravia. Sony has done a great job with their TV's to this point, but there's innovation and then there's expensive gimmickry, and I think this falls on the latter side at the moment. There's no indication that this type of 3D television will go anywhere, and if these TV's aren't mass-m...

Alexander looks badass! To me, this is a mandatory requirement in a good Final Fantasy game!

It's time to be men (or women) and get over the nudity, people! Are you ashamed every time you shower?

That last sequence wouldn't be the same without conveying a sense of being uncomfortable and powerless. Kojima decided to do it that way. So bleepin' what?

I loved the heck out of Max Payne 2. That game owned my life for quite a while, and rightfully so.

@Dreamcast - Word! Cliffhanger endings for games that will obviously have sequels are totally fine if they're done right. Are we going to bash The Dark Knight now because it didn't wrap up the Batman universe in a neat pink-ribboned box?

For obvious serial titles, you could, of course, just go the other way and tell the same story over and over and over again, making the endings worthless and only focusing on the game at hand (Mario), and that's also cool if the game's great....

I hear this "It's complex for the sake of complexity" argument all of the time. Unless you're putting some aspect of the plot under a microscope that I'm just not aware of, I don't get this argument.

It's a complex story, but it does work. The way it's done was thoroughly unique for its time. I keep coming back to that game and finding out more and more about it.

Yeah. MGS2 especially. "Spends too much time running around naked." Sure, completely destroy the symbolism of that scene and gently mask your homophobia a bit more, Mr. "Den of Geek." If I have to pick my favorite game of the PS2/Xbox generation, well - I couldn't, but MGS2 is on my list of five. That ending sequence he just lampooned is still one of the most insane and emotional breakthrough moments in gaming history. This writer needs to go back to school.

Yeah, I'll go get my 3D TV right now in anticipation.

I'll take my pet tiger along for the ride. In my helicopter. Oh wait, I need my tiger trainer to come with me if Bon Bon is in the helicopter. It's going to take him 2 hours to get here... sigh, I guess I'll just send 50 monkey butlers out for the TV. That's about 1/6 of the butlers, so I think we're good!

I can't wait to play Avatar in 3D! Maybe I'll just give the development company 100 million dollars ...

1up's Oddcast had Mielke from Q Games (Lumines, Rez, etc) on the show a week ago. He mentioned that it was startling to him just how many game developers don't actually play games.

In that discussion, it was all about common-sense additions to games that should be included - these easy fixes tend to be left out due to many staff within a company not playing any games and "just doing their job."

For this discussion, do you really think that Joe Developer gi...

Either enough time or the decision to make a better game instead of a better group of cutscenes.

That game was really unbalanced in my opinion. Not nearly enough variation in enemies - it made the game seem much longer than it was just because of how boring the gameplay became.

As a manager with a vision for your company, you need to fight the stupid trends of the time, convince other execs and the press that you don't need to create a film around a game to create a good game, and follow through with making your game. They spent a great deal of their finite amount of money...

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I need you to elaborate on why it's still worth the 50 bones. I don't know why, as I don't have a 360.

Ahhh... That's a great idea. I find myself looking at the video store and never wanting to spend a giant amount of money, but a subscription-based rental service?

5691d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

I'm happy about that. So long as premium services are all for new content, I'm indifferent toward charging for some subscription. I just want online play and the store.
