This was pretty fascinating though I have no desire to actually play any of these games. Probably shouldn't have been submitted here though as it's more of a social studies type article and this site is more for little douchey kids who say things like, "This is fail article."

Dammit I hate gametrailers reviews so much. I'm not even talking about the score, I'm talking about the fact that you could use their reviews as a detailed walkthrough if you ever get stuck in the game. I've learned my lesson now though. I had to just listen to this one with my hand on the volume control of my speakers so I could turn it down whenever the guy started telling me everything I'll be doing in the game.

A good point about having silent protagonists (and what made the Free man so damn cool) is that you get to fill in the blank with your own personality. Obviously though this only works as a plus if you're as amazingly cool and have as great of a personality as me.
I hate most characters having voices because most games are still stuck artistically in the 80's and all the heroes have corny gruff macho voice. Some voices add tons though, like Nate Drake. Playing Drake's fortune recently I loved the points where you'd just barely scrape by one point without dying and rather than act all mean and cool Nate Drake would laugh nervously about how he can't believe he made it, or the 'no no no' when a grenade lands by or the voicing of the frustration you feel ...

Pretty good results considering the vast majority of women are complete idiots. Before you get all offended I'd like to point out that the vast majority of men are complete idiots too. Wow, just ... wow. I knew ign were biased but damn, this is too blatant. I know it sounds like I'm a butthurt Sony fanboy but I honestly don't care either way which system is 'better'. I recently bought a PS3 and still have a broken Xbox that I can easily send off to get fixed if I get any major reason to.
I just can't believe anyone from a supposedly reputable site would claim Sony is the company that needs to be sat down and talked to. Whichever system you prefer I just don't see ...
Dead space no doubt, terribly under appreciated. The darkness too is definitely deserving of it's place on that list, a real good story driven game with some amazing moments.
I'd personally throw in Mirror's edge, I know it was hyped before release but I think reviewers were too harsh on it. For something trying to actually do something new and break new ground I thought it was really well done and had beautiful visuals that were a welcome break from all the browny grey macho shoote...

Same here, did that exact thing a few days ago.
I'm halfway through MGS4 and I have to say it is a bit too Japanese for my tastes, still a good game though but definitely one for the long time fans. Americans couldn't write a good story about a guy named Snake these days though, it would just turn out like a Vin Diesel vehicle or something. The Japanese are good at taking the corny 80's Western archetypes and turning them into deep melodramatic characters (though like I said, still not quite to my personal tastes).
