Nexon Proves That Crime Doesn’t Pay in The First Descendant

Cheating in games is frowned upon, as you’d expect. Cheating in PvE games, like The First Descendant, is pretty questionable. But, since there are a lot of microtransactions in TFD, some players are bound to try to weasel their way into getting some of those premium goodies in a dishonest way. They probably think they’ve managed to beat the system, but Nexon had something to say on that matter.

Over 600 Players Got Banned For Cheating and Exploating the Store

On August 9, Nexon posted the results of their crackdown on abusive cheaters, in the period from August 2 to August 8. The results show that:

  • 323 players have been permanently banned for “creating, distributing, or using unauthorized programs”.
  • 283 players have been permanently banned for “unfair gains by exploitation on store payment process”.

The devs say that player reports and careful monitoring have been a great help in this crackdown. It looks like Nexon is not mucking about.

The Community Supports the Ban But Some Say Nexon is to Blame

The crackdown was widely praised by the players. No one likes a cheater, and Redditor Baalwulf06 said: “You know what, I’m glad they are doing something about it. Cheaters ruin entire games for people who just want to enjoy their time.”  Others agree, with comments like: “Karma catches up with everyone!” and “Don’t mess with payment process”

On the other hand, many players are blaming Nexon for this. Allegedly, many players had issues with purchasing Caliber. They asked for a refund immediately, which flagged them as potential scammers. User MiloPengNolce asked: “Wonder how many people did a charge back because their [Caliber] purchase had issues, and thus getting them banned”.

But, others claim that it is completely their fault for not contacting Nexon’s support before asking for a refund. Redditor Scytian answered: “That’s 100% his fault, you always contact game support in these cases, if you refund you will be always treated as scammer.” with Intelligent-Owl-5105 adding: “Didn’t get my caliber on series x. Messaged support and I got 5k they gave me $100 worth for free.”

In conclusion, the crackdown on cheaters is a great thing. But, Nexon should take a closer look into those refund requests in the future. Maybe it is just innocent players having issues with their purchases.
