Additionally, the upcoming entry will feature a new-and-improved combat system as well as fresh battle grounds where players can face off against other fighters and friends in cross-platform multiplayer, likely available post-launch. While support is still in the works, many franchise fans are curious about which systems they can expect to play the new title, begging the question: Is Mortal Kombat 1 coming to Nintendo Switch?

The good news is Mortal Kombat 1 will be available on Nintendo Switch consoles at launch this September. However, you’ll need to shell out a bit more than the standard $60 for the new installment to the series. Let’s take a look at the release details outlined by Nintendo.

Will Mortal Kombat 1 Be on Nintendo Switch?

Yes, Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to Nintendo Switch consoles, but the Standard Edition alone will cost you $70, as listed on My Nintendo Store. This makes the new entry the second Nintendo Switch game release to retail for more than the standard $60, a trend that now continues following the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In response to concerns, Nintendo has stated that such an increase in price is strictly determined on a “case-by-case basis.”

While the greater cost still remains equal to the title’s counterparts on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, potential players aren’t confident that Mortal Kombat 1 will perform nearly as well on the Switch at launch. This has sparked disapproval among some fans, who recall release day performance issues when Mortal Kombat 11 launched back in 2019. In any case, we can hope that the upcoming stress tests for the new installment will help developers tweak any remaining issues with the game.

When is Mortal Kombat 1 Coming to Nintendo Switch?

Mortal Kombat 1 will arrive on Nintendo Switch consoles on September 19, the same day the new title will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This was outlined by Nintendo on My Nintendo Store, lending some hope to fans that the Switch version will be up to snuff with its next-gen counterparts.

With any game release, we can expect to see at least a few run-of-the-mill performance issues early on. Despite some concerns, the fact remains that Mortal Kombat 1 promises some greatly appreciated improvements within the context of a newly introduced universe — so we’re keeping our fingers crossed! More will be revealed during the upcoming stress tests for Mortal Kombat 1, starting this Friday.
