Modern Warfare 3 is Activision’s latest shooter, a reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 from 2011. Its official release dates are November 9 and 10, but it has a staggered release date on purpose, the reason being not to overload the servers early on. If the game is not fully released in your region, but you want to get into action as soon as possible, let’s see how to play Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer early.
How to Access Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Early?
Every platform has its own method. First of all, make sure you have pre-loaded Modern Warfare 3 and have installed and updated the Call of Duty HQ.
Xbox
You need to change your location to New Zealand, where Modern Warfare III is officially out. Start off by pressing the Xbox button and select Profile & System. Then go to Settings, then System, and finally Language & Location. Find and select New Zealand, restart the console, and that should do it.
PlayStation
For both PlayStation 4 and 5, you can simply make a new User account and set the region to New Zealand. If you really want to play early with your regular account, this can be done like this:
- PlayStation 4: You need to manually change your Activision Account’s location. First, log in to the Activision Account website. Click Profile then go to Basic Info. Look for Address and select Edit. Find New Zealand on the list and you’re good to go.
- PlayStation 5: This one is simpler. Just go to the Call of Duty website and find Basic Info in the top right corner. Once there go to Address and change your country to New Zealand. Now you should be able to play MWIII Multiplayer.

PC
This one is tricky, for it requires you to have MW2 to begin with and apparently only works on the Steam version. First launch Call of Duty HQ from Steam (just called “Call of Duty” in your library), go to Modern Warfare 2 and click Multiplayer. When it starts loading, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, open Task Manager, find cod.exe, and select End Process. Now go back to Steam and as soon as the green Play button is available again, click it and that should launch the MW3 Multiplayer menu.
A Friend
If you happen to have a friend who already has access to Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer, you can simply join his lobby and from there you should be able to play on your own.
