Looking to find out if Starfield will be coming to the Nintendo Switch? Then you have come to the right place. The game will be launching for several platforms, but is Starfield on Nintendo Switch? This guide will answer the question of whether the space-exploring RPG from Bethesda will be coming to the handheld console at launch or sometime in the future.

Will Starfield Be On Nintendo Switch?

Unfortunately for fans of Space Epics who play from handheld consoles, Starfield will not be coming to the Nintendo Switch at launch. The game will be released for PC, Steam, and Xbox Series X|S on September 6, 2023. There have also been no plans announced for a Nintendo Switch version.

It is perhaps not that surprising Starfield will not be coming to Nintendo Switch as the game is an Xbox exclusive. Not only that, but Bethesda Game Studios’ upcoming game features up to 4K resolution and will include more than 1,000 planets to explore – a tall ask for the ageing Nintendo handheld.

Will Starfield ever be released on Nintendo Switch?

No, at the time of writing it’s safe to say that Starfield will not be released on the Nintendo Switch any time soon. The only slight glimmer of hope comes as Bethesda has not completely ignored Nintendo’s platform, and has released games such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the DOOM reboot, and DOOM Eternal on the platform.

It is seemingly a long shot that the publisher would bring the single-player RPG to the Switch in the future, but it may not be out of the realm of possibility. Microsoft recently signed a deal with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo consoles for the next 10 years.

While there were no specifics on how Call of Duty games would be ported to the underpowered Switch hardware, it would seem a step in the right direction. Microsoft owns Bethesda and could apply to them and their games in the future. But for now, there are no plans to bring this space epic to the Nintendo Switch or future Nintendo consoles.

Why Starfield Might Never Come to Nintendo Switch

There is a chance that Starfield will never natively come to Nintendo Switch without Starfield mods or mod support for a number of reasons including:

  • Hardware limitations
    • The Nintendo Switch is a less powerful console than the Xbox series X/S and PC with Starfield PC requirements looking for a minimum of :
    • OS: Windows 10 version 21H1 (10.0.19043)
    • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 125 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: SSD Required
  • These hardware options are suggested by Steam.
  • Microsoft Exclusivity
    • Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda in 2021, part of this deal included Starfield and other Bethesda releases becoming PC and Xbox Console exclusive.
  • Streaming services
    • Microsoft is investing heavily in cloud gaming, and it is possible that Starfield could be made available on the Switch through a service like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Game Pass subscription. However, this has not been confirmed, and it is also possible that Microsoft will only make Starfield available through cloud gaming on more powerful devices, such as the Xbox Series X|S.
