Arrowhead Game Studios are releasing Helldivers 2 any minute now. This fast-paced co-op shooter puts you against various alien threats, like cyborgs and space bugs. You must rely on cooperation and teamwork with your squad to survive these deadly missions. Moreover, you can pick and choose between different weapons and equipment, to suit your playstyle. But, do you need to grind to get your hands on new gear? Is Helldivers 2 a Looter-Shooter game?
Is Helldivers 2 a Looter-Shooter Game?
Well, not really. In Looter-Shooter games, you usually have to grind for random drops to improve your gear. Helldivers 2 has a more loadout-type gameplay, where you choose the gear you go on a mission with. You can find and pick up different weapons and call for additional equipment during the mission, but that is not how you get better gear. There are different in-game currencies, some obtained by completing missions, others found during those missions. You use them to unlock new weapons, armor, Strategems, etc, between missions. All in all, your progression does not depend on a random chance.

How do You Get New Gear?
As new gear does not drop randomly during missions, how do you unlock new stuff? You do that using in-game currency, like Medals, Samples, and Super Credits. Sony says: “While you’ll start with Super Earth’s standard issue equipment, new weapons can be bought from the Acquisition Centre with Medals – earned for completing operational objectives – or with Super Credits, available to buy from the PlayStation Store.
New armor sets can be bought via Warbonds in the Acquisition Center.
Stratagems are the jewels in your arsenal. You’ll unlock more from your Ship Management Terminal with ‘Requisitions’ (a special currency is awarded for completing operations) and you’ll get your hands on stronger Stratagems as you go.”
The less meaningless grind for a random chance, the better.
