If you are looking for how to get these valuable resources, look no further. Read on to see how to get Samples in Helldivers 2.

The newest title from Arrowhead Game Studios has just been released. Helldivers 2 is a cooperative squad-based shooter. Assemble a squad of four people and liberate planets from alien threats, in the name of Managed Democracy. Once you hit the planet’s surface, you must fight against hordes of enemies trying to prevent you from doing what you do best – bringing Freedom. On these missions, you may come across some ammo or Samples. What are these Samples in Helldivers 2, and how to get them? Let’s see.

How to Get Common (Green) Samples in Helldivers 2

Samples are easy to collect but hard to find. You can come across them during missions, and simply pick them up and put them in your inventory. The tricky part is that you have to sweep the map in search of them, as they are not that common.

Your best bet is to look for Places of Interest (POI), denoted by a question mark symbol on your map, as these places usually have supplies and other collectible items, Samples included. Enemy bases usually have a couple of Common Samples scattered around. They are represented in-game by a white icon looking like a circle vertically cut down in half.

Another important fact is that collected Samples are shared across the whole squad. You just have to safely extract from the mission while carrying them. In the case you die while carrying Samples, someone else (or you, after respawn) has to pick them up.

How to Get Rare (Orange) Samples

You need to play on a higher difficulty level to get something better than Common Samples. For example, in order to get Rare Samples, you have to play on the Challenging difficulty and higher.

You can find Rare Samples in a similar manner to Common Samples. They are either located on POIs or inside enemy Outposts. They are represented by a white icon that looks like a square with a smaller square in the bottom left corner.

How to Get Super Uranium (Pink) Samples

Super Uranium Samples are the rarest in the game and are tricky to find. They do not spawn in regular Points of Interest or enemy Bases, as Common and Rare Samples do. Instead, they spawn in a specific location on every map, regardless of whether it is an Automaton or a bug-planet. Remember that you have to play on Suicide Mission, Impossible, or Helldive difficulty for these samples to spawn.

Look for a large stone pillar, that looks like a giant petrified tree (or a chicken drumstick), with thin, white veins on the surface. There, and only there, you will find Super Uranium Samples. You will find three Super Samples on Difficulty 7, five Super Samples on Difficulty 8, and six Super Uranium Samples on Difficulty 9.

It is represented on the map as any other Minor Point of Interest. So, if you happen to come across the Radar Tower Secondary Objective, it is highly recommended that you complete it, since it will mark the locations of POIs on your map and make your search easier. They are represented in-game by a white icon that looks like four squares, in a 2×2 pattern.

What Are Samples Used For?

Samples are an in-game currency that you need to upgrade your ship. Ship Modules, found under the Ship Management screen, all require Samples to unlock. And quite a lot of Samples, to make matters worse. The cheapest upgrade costs 60 Common Samples to unlock, but it is worth it, as Ship Modules improve your Stratagems and some are almost crucial for success in higher-difficulty missions.

To unlock all Ship upgrades, you will need quite a lot of Samples, so never skip a chance to pick some up. Even if you have already unlocked everything, Samples are shared squad-wide, so try to collect some for your teammates.

How to Drop Samples

If you think that dropping the Samples is the way to go, there is a button to do just that. If you want to drop your Samples (or Backpack or Support Weapon), press X on the keyboard, or Down on D-Pad and that will open the “drop item” wheel. Select Drop Samples and there you go.

Players usually want to drop their Samples in the Extraction zone, to avoid losing them somewhere far off and having to go through all the trouble to get them back.
