Helldivers 2 How to Get and Use K-2 Throwing Knife

You can now throw knives to disable the enemy’s hand/claw. In Helldivers 2, your weapons usually consist of a Primary Weapon, a Secondary Weapon (usually a pistol), and a Grenade. Grenades are the go-to Throwable item in Helldivers, and the only Throwable up until the release of Viper Commandos Warbond. Now, after the release of June’s Warbond, you can choose to throw knives instead of grenades. Is that a good trade? Let’s see. Keep reading to see how to get and use the K-2 Throwing Knife.

How to Get the K-2 Throwing Knife in Helldivers 2

The Throwing Knife is a part of the Viper Commandos, a Warbond released in June 2024. Like all Warbond items, you have to unlock it with Medals. The K-2 Throwing Knife is located on the third page of the Warbond, so you first have to spend 275 Medals on pages one and two, before you gain access to the third page. Once you get there, you can unlock the Throwing Knife by paying 60 Medals.

First, you have to equip the K-2 Throwing Knife, either in your Armory or during the Loadout phase, before the mission. The Knife is a Throwable item, so you will find it where your Grenades usually are.

You select the Throwing Knife during the game the same way you select Grenades, by pressing “4” on the keyboard, or “right” on the D-pad for PS players. Hold down the Aim button to, well, aim and press the Fire button to throw the Knife. You can have up to eight Knives on yourself.

The Knife itself does not deal too much damage. It can eliminate smaller bugs in one hit, but anything tougher than them will require more hits. Bear in mind that gravity is a factor when throwing, so if your target is a bit far away, aim a little higher.

Is the K-2 Throwing Knife Any Good?

Besides the coolness factor, exchanging your Grenades for Throwing Knives is generally not the best option. Losing the ability to close bug holes and destroy fabricators, to deal explosive damage, or to stun enemies may be too steep a price. If you can have even a single Throwing Knife along with your Grenades, that would be a much better option than completely replacing them.

On the other hand, Throwing Knives is a stealth weapon, ie, they produce no noise, giving you the ability to reliably perform stealth kills on lone “scouts” and sneak up on larger groups/bases to throw some orbitals. With the recent improvements to stealth, this can be a viable option.

In conclusion, K-2 Throwing Knives are a very situational weapon and should be used in a “Stealth” build (something with the Scout Armor Perk). But, apart from that, they are the coolest addition to Helldivers 2. Nothing beats throwing knives at a Bile Titan and watching it fall (totally because of you, not because someone else got it with an Anti-Tank)
