If you had your bug extermination cut short by Helldivers 2 crashing on your PC, you are not alone. Many Helldivers have reported problems that have led to crashes while playing on PC. Experiencing crashes is one of the uglier sides of gaming, but there are steps you can try to fix this. Read on and we will share what you can do to prevent Helldivers 2 from crashing on your PC.

Steps to Fix Helldivers 2 crashing on PC

Many things can cause the game to crash, especially if a game is recently released. Developers are usually quick to patch out major problems and issues, and we are expecting just that for Helldivers 2 almost every day now. Nevertheless, there are steps you can try to fix crashes yourself.

Remember to check the server status before everything. It may happen that servers are down for one reason or another.

Verify the Integrity of Game Files

In some cases, game crashes can be caused by files that did not install correctly or got corrupted. Using Steam to verify game file integrity can solve PC crashing problems. Follow these steps to fix this issue:

  • Locate Helldivers 2 in your Steam Library.
  • Right-click in the game to access Properties.
  • Navigate to the Installed Files tab (or Lo and click on Verify integrity of game files.

It will take Steam a couple of minutes to verify all the game files and re-download any missing or corrupt files. When this is done you can try launching the game and, hopefully, you will be able to play without crashes.

  • BECOME A LEGEND – You will be assembled into squads of up to four Helldivers and assigned strategic missions. Watch each other’s back – friendly fire is an unfortunate certainty of war, but victory without teamwork is impossible.
  • LOADOUTS – Rain down freedom from above, sneak through enemy territory, or grit your teeth and charge head-first into the jaws of combat. How you deliver liberty is your choice; you’ll have access to a wide array of explosive firepower, life-saving armour and battle-changing stratagems… the jewel in every Helldiver’s arsenal.
  • REQUISITION – Super Earth recognises your hard work with valuable Requisition. Use it to access different rewards that benefit you, your squad, your destroyer ship and our overall war effort.
  • THREATS – Everything on every planet wants you dead. That’s what we’re dealing with. Each enemy has distinct and unpredictable characteristics, tactics, and behaviour – but they all fight ferociously and without fear or morality.

Disable Steam In-Game Integration

One of the things that can help with crashes in-game is to disable Steam’s in-game UI. Follow these steps to turn off Steam Integration:

  • Locate Helldivers 2 in your Library on Steam.
  • Right-click on the game and select Properties.
  • Go to the General tab and disable the Enable Steam overlay while in-game.

Disable Steam Input

Some players claim that disabling Steam’s controller support has fixed this issue. In the case you are using a controller, in Steam click on the Steam menu tab. Select Settings and then Controller. In the “Override for Helldivers 2” option, select “Disable Steam Input” and try playing Helldivers 2 again.

Update Graphics Drivers

Make sure your Graphics card drivers are up to date. You can also use your Nvidia or AMD app to manually check for new updates and get the latest version. On that more, you can try turning your graphics settings down and adjusting the Vsync for your monitor.

Do Not Change Armor Before the First Mission

Many players have reported the game crashing when they try to change armor after they finish the tutorial. Developers are aware of this and are working on patching out this issue. Until then, it is recommended that you do not change armor until you finish the first mission in the game.

Disable Crossplay

Since the launch, Helldivers 2 has been having issues with this feature, so turning Crossplay off may help out. Hopefully, the developers will fix this issue soon and you can play with players on other platforms. Until then, keeping the crossplay feature disabled may resolve the issues with the game crashing.

GameGuard Issues

Recently, there has been an increase in crashes due to GameGuard errors. Most notably an Error Code 360 and Error Code 114. In short, these errors are connected to software conflicts with GameGuard, an anti-cheat and malware-prevention software, and deleting and reinstalling that folder seems to work. Look for the GameGuard folder in the bin folder where your Helldivers 2 is installed, usually C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steam apps/common/Helldivers 2/bin. You can also right-click on Helldivers 2 in your Steam Library and choose Browse Local Files, it will take you to the same folder.

Firewall Settings

Make sure Helldivers 2 and GameGuard are whitelisted in your antivirus settings, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall, and any other similar app.

Close Background Apps

Some background apps can use a lot of your virtual memory, and that can interfere with Helldivers 2. Apps like Google Chrome, Spotify, other game launchers, and even Discord can get in the way of some games, so try closing them before launching Helldivers 2.
