While there is not one definite solution to this error, the community has offered these fixes.

  • GPU Driver Reset – this is the most common workaround that we have found. Open the Registry Editor by typing “regedit” in the Windows search bar. There, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and expand it, then expand SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet, then Control, and finally select GraphicsDrivers.
    Right-click somewhere below the listed files on the right, select New and select DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name the file TdrLevel, double-click on it, and select Modify. Set the value to 0, if it is not already like that, and restart your PC.
  • Update GPU Drivers – your graphics card drivers may be out of date and that can be the reason why are you experiencing crashes. Be sure to update your drivers, restart your PC and try DD2 again.
  • Lower Graphics Settings – the error appears mostly due to the unexpected strain on your graphics card. Try lowering your graphics settings if you happen to experience crashes in one particular place (like during character creation or somewhere in-game).

What Is Fatal D3D Error in Dragon’s Dogma 2

This error appears to be connected to the graphics processing unit (GPU). More and more players report that the game crashes on them during some “more demanding” scenes, like in a fight or while in town. Some unlucky players can’t even get past the character creation screen, even while having more than compatible graphics cards. It seems to be an optimization issue.
