Helldivers 2 Devs Finally Address Impossible High-Difficulty Missions

With the number of missions and difficulty levels in Helldivers 2, some combinations are bound to be problematic. Such is the case of high-difficulty Civilian Escort missions on the Automaton front.

Civilian Escort missions revolve around, you guessed it, escorting a number of civilians to safety. Naturally, those missions are easier if your opponents are close-combat-oriented Terminids. You simply shoot them as they approach to keep them away from the civilians (in theory, until Bile Titans start coming). But, Escort missions are a whole different experience if you have to defend against Automatons and their heavy firepower.

Helldivers 2 Devs Noticed that Bot Escort Missions are Too hard on Higher Difficulties

On higher difficulties, Escort Missions in the Automaton sectors are a whole different experience. With powerhouses like Hulks, Tanks, and Factory Striders constantly shooting, those poor civilians have a hard time (some would say impossible) reaching the safety of the central building. So much so that the majority of players straight up refuse to do Defense Campaigns on bot planets. Thankfully, the Devs noticed it.

In a message from the Devs, shared in one Reddit post, Twinbeard (one of Arrowhead’s Community Managers) said that they 100% agree that bot Escort missions are too hard and that they will adjust it in the near future. With the difficulty of said missions and occasional bugs (like when civilians just get stuck in front of the main building), this is welcome news indeed.

What Changes Can The Players Expect

The majority of the community has taken this with a dose of humor. No one said that the adjustments would make Helldivers’ lives easier. Like ArmadaOnion, saying: “Good news, Terminids adjusted to be just as difficult. Equity in democracy!”. Or The_Mandorawrian jokingly “quoting” the developers: “We heard some of you are actually completing these missions despite the difficulty literally being called Impossible. We will adjust accordingly”

Jokes aside, what we do expect is that the Automaton Dropships will stop bringing troops directly into the civilian compound. Rather, they should stop before the “walls” and unload there, giving Helldivers more time to react. And, of course, we expect the devs to do something about the bugged civilian paths and similar glitches.
