The Witcher 3 With PC Mods Is The Best Looking Game Ever Made

Game Revolution: "What you're looking at above isn't real life, but it might as well be. It's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt running with mods, and an example of how beautiful the game can be when modded running on currently available PC hardware."

The mods seem like a pretty modest step up at this point, to be honest. It sort of just looked like color-correction to me. Maybe that's just a testament to how good CD Projekt made it look to begin with.

NuggetsOfGod3261d ago

Hopefully it will get better and better!

reynod3261d ago (Edited 3261d ago )

The mod kit isnt out yet so we need to wait.

Mods will transform this into the best looking game out there.

d0x3603261d ago

Based on what? The blurry background that you see zero detail in or the ladies ass?

Conzul3261d ago

lol her skin texture is so totally inferior to everything else in that shot. Also Depth-of-Field up the ying yang, cheap.

Dasteru3261d ago

Skyrim does look better if modded properly, but it has had several years and a massive modding community to get there. That image is a good example of how not to mod the game. People really need to stop using DoF.

Still far from the best you can get but the best example i could find on Youtube. Watch from around 1:35.

My Skyrim setup does look better then Witcher3 in some areas. Like Dasteru said, Skyrim has had many years for modders to hone their skills. Just give Witch 3 some time. If the mod community really backs it, it will get tremendously better. I do worry though, Witcher 3 will only get attention until Fallout 4. Modders are already anxious to jump on Fallout 4.

...It is just color correction. That's what all of these SweetFX "graphics" mods are. Personally, I'm gonna stick with the way it originally looked.

skulz73261d ago

Its the best looking open world game in existence, even on consoles IMO.

Ricegum3261d ago

By quite a long shot. This game is stunning.

aquaticDonut3261d ago

eh...Outside of animations, and although Witcher 3 is clearly a much better game over all, Dragon Age Inquisition looks significantly better.

Allsystemgamer3261d ago

Lol no it doesn't are you drunk?

Conzul3261d ago

No inFamous Second Son looks better but it was a much smaller world and less dynamic than the Witcher.

YodaCracker3261d ago (Edited 3261d ago )

I still believe GTA V is the best-looking open world game on any platform. Although the rural/forest areas do leave a lot to be desired after playing The Witcher III. And I sure do love those wind effects in Witcher.

I really appreciate how both Rockstar and CDPR devote so much attention to the little details in their worlds. It's what really brings them to life and makes them feel like tangible places.

tablecloth3261d ago

I was watching a man play guitar near Vespucci beach in first person with my mom. Then I just punched him and my mom was shocked because she thought it was real.
GTA 5 does look damn amazing, although my vote goes for the Witcher. The swamp area at certain times made me just stop and wonder, even though I hate swamp areas irl or in game.

starchild3261d ago

@skulz7

I agree. The Witcher 3 has the most impressive graphics of any open world game I've played. This game has me stopping and saying "wow, that looks amazing" more often than I do with AC Unity or GTA5.

The Witcher 3 has beautiful, dynamic image based lighting and an amazing ever-changing weather system that combine in nearly infinitely varied ways. The physically based rendering gives everything from roads to armor the correct specularity and reflectance of light. The character models are outstanding for a game of this type. The density and draw distance of the vegetation set new standards for games, and all of it moves dynamically all the way out to the horizon, which has also never been done before at this scale. The water, too, is dynamic and reacts to people or monsters walking through it or when you are riding in a boat. The water shaders also do a good job creating eye-pleasing water with nice surface qualities as well as a sense of depth and dimensionality. There are so many technical things I could mention that explain why The Witcher 3 looks so good, but those are some of the highlights.

The game as a whole definitely looks outstanding and deserves its due credit. It could be surpassed fairly shortly by games like Batman Arkham Knight or AC Syndicate (not saying it will, but it's definitely possible) so let's give it its time in the sun.

tee_bag2423260d ago

Great to hear.. Starchild I usually value your unbias down to earth opinions.

skulz73260d ago

Agree. I own a PS4 and was shocked by Infamous Second Son and AC Unitys graphics, but The Witcher 3 is simply stunning. All I do is take tons and tons of screenshots. The fact that this is just over a year after the next-gen systems came out, I can't wait to see what comes next. I agree, Batman Arkham Knight and AC Syndicate are going to be also be stunning. We shall see, but it really does annoy me when people complain about any downgrades that have happened here as the game is the best looking open world game ever made.

Mega243261d ago

just downloaded it, don't like how it washes out the colors, think vanilla looks better, bit more vivid.

Grap3261d ago

i think this mod made the game look bit realistic, don't get me wrong the vanilla is stunning but i think CDPR choose more colorful approach with the game(definitely not cartoony)which is not very realistic imo. anyhow i prefer vanilla too^^.

Revolver_X_3261d ago

The Witcher is a high fantasy world. I believe CDPR chose the right color palette. Not really interested in any game changing ENB mods right now. Just some texture mods will do.

PrimeGrime3261d ago

Please don't let this become the trend on N4G. It isn't that this doesn't deserve all the credit it can get, but christ, did I get sick of all those Skyrim articles on here.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan21d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name44d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno44d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno44d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure44d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
